Ambient noise in open plan offices

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1989
This paper summarizes ambient noise data that were collected in open plan offices over the past 2 years. The approach centered on monitoring the noise level in empty workstations to establish some statistics of the noise that would be auditioned by a person sitting in that workstation during a normal work day.

Comparison of different in situ measurements techniques of intelligibility in an open-plan office

Building Acoustics, 2018
Acoustic comfort in open-plan offices is a relatively recent research topic and some practices have not yet been consolidated. The goal in these spaces is to achieve good speech privacy at every workstation, reaching a high value of spatial decay of the ...

Sound masking system for open plan office

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1979
This invention relates to a system for masking conversation in an open plan office. A conventional generator of electrical random noise currents feeds its output through adjustable electric filter means to speaker clusters in a plenum above the office space.

Three Recent Experiences in Open Office Planning

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1971
Theoretical considerations have led to the design and completion of three acoustically successful open-plan offices. With but minor compromises, each was treated with highly absorptive materials to reduce and to localize the sounds of speech and other activities. In two of the three cases, a steady level of background noise is generated and distributed

Users' privacy preferences in open plan offices

Facilities, 2008
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore managers' and employees' opinions regarding privacy in open plan offices and also investigate the relationship between the perception of managers and employees on visual and acoustical privacy in order to provide better design solutions in an open plan office setting.Design/methodology/approachThe research
