Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A Novel Structure Between WL Spaces to Improve the Retention Characteristics in 3D NAND Flash

open access: yesIEEE Access
As NAND flash evolved from two-dimensional (2D) to three-dimensional (3D), all cells have been changed to share a charge trap layer (CTL). This change has a lateral charge spreading effect, which is the trapped charge spreading laterally.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Estimating Rainfall Interception of Vegetation Canopy from MODIS Imageries in Southern China

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
The interception of rainfall by vegetation canopies plays an important role in the hydrologic process of ecosystems. Most estimates of canopy rainfall interception in present studies are mainly through field observations at the plot region.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Open Estelle — An FDT for Open Distributed Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
An Estelle specification describes a system of communicating components (module instances). The specified system is closed, i.e. it has no ability to interact with some environment. Because of this restriction, open systems can only be specified together with and incorporated into an (Estelle) environment.
