Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Metaphorical Perceptions of Operating Room Staff Towards the Concept of Pressure Ulcer: A Qualitative Study

open access: yesJournal of Nursology
Objective: To explain the perceptions of the operating room staff about pressure ulcers through metaphors. Methods: A descriptive qualitative research design was used. In the study, it was aimed to reach the entire universe, not choosing a sample.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Identifying and Managing Intraoperative Arrhythmia: A Multidisciplinary Operating Room Team Simulation Case

open access: yesMedEdPORTAL, 2018
Introduction Resuscitation of a critically ill patient is challenging for both novice learners and experienced health care providers. During a critical event, not only is it important to identify the correct underlying diagnosis, it is equally crucial ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...
