Operating room (OR) requirements

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery
Abstract The International Health Facility Guidelines 2023 provide critical recommendations for operating room (OR) design and management, addressing layout, equipment specifications, and safety protocols. By adhering to these guidelines, healthcare facilities can ensure optimal conditions for surgical procedures, minimise risks to patients ...

A day in the operating room [PDF]

open access: yesPlastic Surgery, 2007
It is another day in the operating room, and you have too much surgery booked. You cannot say that, or your last case will be cancelled. You may be able to finish at 3:30 if everyone has a sandwich or coffee in the hall, but will the union object? You do not explain why it is hard to stay on time or why you cannot predict how long surgery will take ...

Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Assessment of Thermal Comfort in Operating Rooms Using PMV-PPD Model

open access: yes, 2020
Operating rooms (ORs) are the most critical and expensive sector of healthcare facilities. The air conditioning system is designed to provide a well-controlled indoor air quality (IAQ).

Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation is stimulated by red light irradiation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Light at different wavelengths has distinct effects on keratinocyte viability and metabolism. UVA light abrogates metabolic fluxes. Blue and green light have no effect on metabolic fluxes, while red light enhanced oxidative phosphorylation by promoting fatty acid oxidation. Keratinocytes are the primary constituents of sunlight‐exposed epidermis.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Management of intrathoracic and cervical anastomotic leakage after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer: a systematic review

open access: yesWorld Journal of Emergency Surgery, 2019
Background Anastomotic leakage (0–30%) after esophagectomy is a severe complication and is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to determine which treatment for anastomotic leakage after esophagectomy have the ...

Surgical Smoke—Hazard Perceptions and Protective Measures in German Operating Rooms

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2020
(1) Background: Hazardous substances in surgical smoke that is generated during laser or electrosurgery pose a potential health hazard. In Germany, the Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS 525) have included recommendations for appropriate ...
