Innovative Ventilation Technology for Operating Rooms

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2018
The purpose of this work was to evaluate the decontamination potential of the Potok system both in an experimental setting in a research Operating Room (OR) with standalone Air Decontamination Units (Potok 150-M-01) and in a clinical setting in a real ...

Cloning, expression, purification, and structural modeling of the Chandipura virus matrix protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol offers a guide for the cloning, expression, and purification of the Chandipura virus matrix protein using E. coli. It also includes a step‐by‐step procedure for cloning, expressing, and conducting fluorescence imaging of GFP‐fused Chandipura virus matrix protein in mammalian cell lines.

Day/night variations of myeloid and lymphoid cell subsets in the murine inguinal lymph node

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The circadian system is involved in the temporal regulation of the immune system. Our study reveals that two innate immune populations, NKT cells and neutrophils, predominate at the beginning of the day in healthy mice, highlighting how the time of day influences immune responses.

Dietary nitrate and nitrite protect against doxorubicin‐induced cardiac fibrosis and oxidative protein damage in tumor‐bearing mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapies such as doxorubicin can have toxic effects on healthy cardiovascular/heart tissue. Following up on a doxorubicin toxicity study in mice without tumors where nitrate water was cardioprotective (lessened toxicity), this study with tumor‐bearing mice undergoing doxorubicin treatment showed no negative effect of nitrate and nitrite on drug ...

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

Operating room (OR) requirements

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery
Abstract The International Health Facility Guidelines 2023 provide critical recommendations for operating room (OR) design and management, addressing layout, equipment specifications, and safety protocols. By adhering to these guidelines, healthcare facilities can ensure optimal conditions for surgical procedures, minimise risks to patients ...

The operating room dance [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Quality & Safety, 2011
Gillespie and colleagues have reported on their structured observations in operating rooms to help us understand which factors (interruptions, communication failures, team familiarity and the unpredictability of unplanned cases) prolong the length of an operation and lead to inefficiency and increased costs.
