Characterization of the Bacillus subtilis pur operon
The Bacillus subtilis pur operon was characterized to better understand genetic organization and regulation in this gram positive bacterium. Over 13 kilobase pairs of DNA containing the pur operon were cloned and sequenced.

Affective Neuroscience: Implications for the Jungian Self and Archetypes
Abstract Archetypes are central to Jung’s model of the mind and his concept of the Self. He observed that patients with psychosis demonstrated cultural content in their hallucinations and delusions that were not learned, leading him to define archetypes as impersonal unconscious patterns. Although Jung’s description of archetypes evolved over time, the

ABSTRACT Among bacteria that are associated with the development and/or exacerbation of allergic/atopic diseases, several have been described to produce IgE‐binding components. However, only one bacterial protein, Bac s 1, is currently listed in the official database of the World Health Organization/International Union of Immunological Societies (WHO ...

Background and Purpose Degeneration of the pontine noradrenergic and midbrain dopaminergic systems contributes to cognitive‐behavioural disturbances during the prodromal stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We developed a genetically engineered, programmable probiotic Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 strain (EcNrhaL‐DOPA) capable of producing L‐3,4 ...

FucR Functions as a Transcriptional Regulator for L-Fucose Utilization in Campylobacter jejuni
Campylobacter jejuni is an enteric pathogen and a major cause of foodborne illness worldwide. It has been shown that C. jejuni primarily utilizes amino acids as its preferred energy source, but its ability to utilize L-fucose can grant a competitive ...

Cobamide Scavenging and Import via a Multiprotein Extracellular Relay in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron. [PDF]
Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron competes with gut microbes and the host for a limited cobamide pool. To meet this demand, it deploys surface associated lipoproteins (BtuJ, BtuH, BtuK, BtuG), three BtuB paralogs, and extracellular vesicles that extend cobamide capture beyond the cell surface. This review examines the structural and mechanistic evidence for

S‐Adenosylmethionine (SAM) hydrolases counter increased SAM epimerisation in thermophilic archaea
S‐Adenosyl‐l‐methionine (SAM) is a vital enzyme cofactor. Epimerisation at the sulfonium centre of biologically active (SS,SCα)‐SAM is driven by heat, yielding biologically inactive (RS,SCα)‐SAM. Here, two novel archaeal SAM hydrolases from the thermophilic Sulfolobus acidocaldarius and the halophilic Haloferax volcanii are shown to cleave (RS,SCα)‐SAM.
