On the variability of Ophiostoma piceae

Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek, 1989
The morphology and cultural characteristics of Ophiostoma piceae were described on the basis of 22 strains from the CBS collection supplemented with 25 fresh isolates from Poland, mostly from necrotic parts of Quercus robur. The pleomorphism of anamorphs of the fungus is described in detail.

Extracellular lipase production by a sapwood-staining fungus, Ophiostoma piceae

World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1995
The extracellular lipase production of a sapwood-staining fungus, Ophiostoma piceae, grown in liquid media, was optimally active at pH 5.5 and 37°C. Although glucose, fructose, sucrose, starch and dextrin, as carbon sources for growth gave similar mycelial yields, which were higher than those obtained with arabinose, galactose or raffinose, the cells ...

Properties and substrate specificities of an extracellular lipase purified from Ophiostoma piceae

World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1998
An extracellular lipase produced by the sapstaining fungus Ophiostoma piceae 387N in a liquid medium was purified to homogeneity using ammonium sulphate and acetone fractionation, hydrophobic interaction and anion exchange chromatography. The overall purification based on lipase activity was 5200-fold with a yield of 26%.

Differentiation of Ophiostoma piceae and Ophiostoma quercus by Morphology and RAPD Analysis [PDF]

open access: possibleSystematic and Applied Microbiology, 1995
<p>Ophiostoma piceae (Münch) H. and G. Sydow was found to comprise two distinct species by means of morphological investigation on synnematal size as well as by RAPD technique for genomic analysis. The two species are separated undoubtedly by the means of morphological investigations on synnematal size, the onset of a respective yeast ...

Sibling species within Ophiostoma piceae

Mycological Research, 1993
Fifty-five hardwood or conifer derived isolates of the heterothallic fungus Ophiostoma piceae from Europe and North America were separated into two inter-sterile mating groups. One group, designated OPH, came almost exclusively from hardwood hosts while the other isolates, designated OPC, came predominantly (75%) from conifers.
