Animal models for Opisthorchis viverrini infection

Parasitology Research, 2008
We investigated the utility of various animal models for the study of opisthorchiasis in humans and its common sequel of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Rats, mice, gerbils, and hamsters were infected with Opisthorchis viverrini metacercariae. Worms from the infected animal hosts were recovered from livers and counts made of eggs per gram of feces.

Monoclonal antibodies against Opisthorchis viverrini antigens

Parasite Immunology, 1990
Summary Monoclonal antibodies (MoAb) were produced against somatic antigens of adult human liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini. Earlier studies attached diagnostic potential to an 89–90 kD antigen present in both somatic extracts and in vitro culture supernatants as well as to the abundant 16–17 kD tegumental protein doublet.

Specific monoclonal antibodies to Opisthorchis viverrini

International Journal for Parasitology, 1991
A Balb/c mouse was immunized with a crude soluble antigen of Opisthorchis viverrini adult worms (OVAA) over a period of 7 months. Spleen cells from the immune mouse were fused with Sp2/0 myeloma cells. Among the 264 tissue culture wells containing the fused cells, cells of 96 wells (36%) produced antibodies to the immunizing agent.

Bi-functionality of Opisthorchis viverrini aquaporins

Biochimie, 2015
Aquaporins (AQP) are essential mediators of water regulation in all living organisms and members of the major intrinsic protein (MIP) superfamily of integral membrane proteins. They are potential vehicles or targets for chemotherapy, e.g. in Trypanosoma brucei melarsoprol and pentamidine uptake is facilitated by TbAQP-2.

Genetics of Opisthorchis viverrini-related cholangiocarcinoma

Current Opinion in Gastroenterology, 2015
We review the genetic, epigenetic and transcriptional landscape of liver fluke (Opisthorchis viverrini, Ov)-related cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Its distinct alterations, as compared with non-Ov-related CCA may help shed light on its underlying molecular mechanisms.Recent whole-exome and targeted sequencing not only confirmed frequent mutations in known ...

Epidemiology of Opisthorchis viverrini Infection

2018
Opisthorchiasis in the Lower Mekong Subregion is a parasitic disease caused by the liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini. This parasite has a well-documented distribution in Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Myanmar and Southern Vietnam. In this chapter, we describe the current knowledge of the epidemiology of O.

Characterization of the Opisthorchis viverrini genome

Journal of Helminthology, 1991
ABSTRACTThe methylations of trematode genomic DNA were analyzed using restriction enzymes and Southern blot hybridization. Restriction enzymes MspI, HpaII, HhaI were used to probe CpG methylation while MboI, Sau3A, DpnI were used for A methylation. The results revealed that Opisthorchis viverrini, Fasciola gigantica and Gigantocotyle siamensis had ...

Mast cell hyperplasia in Opisthorchis viverrini-associated cholecystitis

Parasitology Research, 2020
Despite significant advances in understanding the role of the immune response in Opisthorchis viverrini-associated carcinogenesis, little is known about how infection induces gall bladder disease. This study investigated whether mast cells are activated in cholecystitis associated with O.

Specific gravity of Opisthorchis viverrini eggs

Journal of Helminthology, 1998
AbstractThe specific gravity of the eggs of the liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini was determined using a sucrose gradient centrifugation and found to range from 1.2713 to 1.3043. The peak egg count was located at the sucrose fraction with a specific gravity of 1.2814. An attempt to float eggs in saturated sodium nitrate solution, sp.gr.

Unusual protein pattern ofOpisthorchis viverrini

Journal of Helminthology, 1985
ABSTRACTThe proteins of homogenized adultOpisthorchis viverriniwere separated by polyacrylamide gel electro-Phoresis and isoelectric focusing in the presence of detergents. By far the most abundant component(s) had a Mr of 18,000 to 19,000, represented about 47% of the total parasite protein, and did not separate in isotypes.
