Mouse NR2E3R296Q Mutation Disrupts Photoreceptor Developmental Paradigm and Leads to Early‐Onset Progressive Retinal Degeneration by Suppressing RXRG Signaling

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 9, 15 May 2025.
The NR2E3R296Q mutation causes rhodopsin mislocalization, increased blue cones in the dorsal retina, and intermediate rhodopsin–arrestin co‐expressing photoreceptors. NR2E3R296Q mice develop early‐onset retinal degeneration, reduced outer nuclear layer thickness, and disorganized outer segments.

Short‐wavelength‐sensitive 1 (SWS1) opsin gene duplications and parallel visual pigment tuning support ultraviolet communication in damselfishes (Pomacentridae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Damselfishes (Pomacentridae) are one of the most behaviourally diverse, colourful and species‐rich reef fish families. One remarkable characteristic of damselfishes is their communication in ultraviolet (UV) light. Not only are they sensitive to UV, they

Chemical AI in the Limelight: The Contribution of Photochromic Materials and Oscillatory Chemical Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 15, May 27, 2025.
Photochromic compounds are versatile ingredients for the development of Chemical AI. When they are embedded in a tight microenvironment, they become Markov blankets. They are also valuable for processing Boolean and Fuzzy logic. They contribute to neuromorphic engineering in wetware based on opto‐chemical signals exchanged with oscillatory chemical ...
