Detection of Glaucoma and Microaneurysm in Retinal Fundus Images Based on Optic Disk and Optic Cup Segmentation [PDF]
Diabetes cause’s metabolic and physiological abnormalities in the retina and the changes suggest a role for inflammation in the development of diabetic retinopathy. The occurrence of micro aneurysms, a small red dot in retinal layer in the eye, is one of

Germline variants in CDKN2A wild‐type melanoma prone families
Among melanoma‐prone families, wild‐type for CDKN2A and CDK4, some have pathogenic variants in genes not usually linked to melanoma. Furthermore, rare XP‐related variants and variants in MC1R are enriched in such families. Germline pathogenic variants in CDKN2A are well established as an underlying cause of familial malignant melanoma. While pathogenic

Vitrectomy combined with glial tissue removal at the optic pit in a patient with optic disc pit maculopathy: a case report [PDF]
Introduction We present a case of a man with optic disc pit maculopathy, whose vision improved after vitrectomy combined with glial tissue removal from the optic pit area, and without the use of photocoagulation.

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Optical excess of dim isolated neutron stars [PDF]
The optical excess in the spectra of dim isolated neutron stars (XDINs) is a significant fraction of their rotational energy loss-rate. This is strikingly different from the situation in isolated radio pulsars. We investigate this problem in the framework of the fallback disc model.

ZNF469 regulates the expression of genes encoding extracellular matrix proteins. Endogenous ZNF469 is predominantly cytoplasmic, while in transfected cells, it forms aggregates reminiscent of biomolecular condensates, located mainly in the nucleus. These condensates exhibit overlapping staining with proteasomes and are also associated with the mitotic ...

Background Sudden visual loss and optic disc edema caused by optic neuritis (ON) is usually followed by significant visual recovery. However, little or no recovery occurs when the loss is caused by atypical ON, especially in patients with neuromyelitis ...

Optic Disc Changes after Pan-Retinal Photocoagulation for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy [PDF]
This study aims to examine the possible effect that pan-retinal photocoagulation (PRP) performed as treatment for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) has on the optic disc. In a retrospective study, photographs of the optic disc before and after PRP,

Segmentation of Optic Disc in Fundus Images using Convolutional Neural Networks for Detection of Glaucoma [PDF]
The condition of the vascular network of human eye is an important diagnostic factor in ophthalmology. Its segmentation in fundus imaging is a difficult task due to various anatomical structures like blood vessel, optic cup, optic disc, macula and fovea.
