Automated Fovea Detection Based on Unsupervised Retinal Vessel Segmentation Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The Computer Assisted Diagnosis systems could save workloads and give objective diagnostic to ophthalmologists. At first level of automated screening of systems feature extraction is the fundamental step. One of these retinal features is the fovea.

Medical management of hereditary optic neuropathies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Hereditary optic neuropathies are diseases affecting the optic nerve. The most common are mitochondrial hereditary optic neuropathies, i.e., the maternally inherited Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) and dominant optic atrophy (DOA).

Optic Nerve Sonography in the Diagnostic Evaluation of Pseudopapilledema and Raised Intracranial Pressure: A Cross-Sectional Study

open access: yesNeurology Research International, 2015
Introduction. Differentiating pseudopapilledema from papilledema which is optic disk edema and a result of increased ICP (intracranial pressure) is important and can be done with noninvasive methods like orbital ultrasound examination. Method. This was a

Relevance of Kappa and Lambda Free Light Chains in Autoimmune Astrocytopathy Associated With Anti‐GFAP Antibodies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The kappa‐free light chain (κ‐FLC) index is known to be highly sensitive and specific for diagnosing multiple sclerosis (MS), while little is understood about lambda (λ)‐FLC. This study assessed the κ‐FLC and λ‐FLC indices in autoimmune glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) astrocytopathy.

Timing and Predictive Value of Clinical Conditions Preceding Multiple Sclerosis in the UK Biobank

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) patients often experience a higher incidence of clinical conditions before diagnosis, suggesting a prodromal phase. However, their predictive value and temporal trajectories remain underexplored. We investigated these aspects using the large UK Biobank's population‐based cohort, which provided clinical ...

Mechanisms of Increasing Weld Depth during Temporal Power Modulation in High‐Power Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.

A Novel Approach to Produce Metal–Metal Composites by Leveraging Immiscibility: Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Nanosilver‐Dispersed Titanium

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Incorporating nanosized silver into titanium for antimicrobial materials exploits the metastable miscibility gap between silver and titanium. Silver nanoparticles are synthesized via pulsed laser ablation in liquid. Silver addition refines the microstructure, increases hardness by 30%, and reduces Staphylococcus capitis microbial adhesion by 70%, with ...
