Improved Speech Reconstruction from Silent Video

open access: yes, 2017
Speechreading is the task of inferring phonetic information from visually observed articulatory facial movements, and is a notoriously difficult task for humans to perform.

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

CA‐PMG: Channel attention and progressive multi‐granularity training network for fine‐grained visual classification

open access: yesIET Image Processing, 2021
Fine‐grained visual classification is challenging due to the inherently subtle intra‐class object variations. To solve this issue, a novel framework named channel attention and progressive multi‐granularity training network, is proposed.

Less is More: Micro-expression Recognition from Video using Apex Frame

open access: yes, 2018
Despite recent interest and advances in facial micro-expression research, there is still plenty room for improvement in terms of micro-expression recognition. Conventional feature extraction approaches for micro-expression video consider either the whole

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Fractional‐order generalized Laguerre moments and moment invariants for grey‐scale image analysis

open access: yesIET Image Processing, 2021
Here, a new set of fractional‐order moments, named fractional‐order generalized Laguerre moments (FGLM), is introduced. These proposed moments are defined on the Cartesian coordinate system and their basis functions are represented by the fractional ...

Sparsity in Dynamics of Spontaneous Subtle Emotions: Analysis \& Application

open access: yes, 2016
Spontaneous subtle emotions are expressed through micro-expressions, which are tiny, sudden and short-lived dynamics of facial muscles; thus poses a great challenge for visual recognition.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Detail texture detection based on Yolov4‐tiny combined with attention mechanism and bicubic interpolation

open access: yesIET Image Processing, 2021
Aero‐engine blades crack detection is one of the important tasks in daily ground maintenance, crack is a kind of texture feature, due to the random distribution, irregular shape and vague characteristics, which is still a challenging task to realize ...

Adaptive-Rate Compressive Sensing Using Side Information

open access: yes, 2014
We provide two novel adaptive-rate compressive sensing (CS) strategies for sparse, time-varying signals using side information. Our first method utilizes extra cross-validation measurements, and the second one exploits extra low-resolution measurements ...
