A Versatile, Portable Intravital Microscopy Platform for Studying Beta-cell Biology In Vivo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The pancreatic islet is a complex micro-organ containing numerous cell types, including endocrine, immune, and endothelial cells. The communication of these systems is lost upon isolation of the islets, and therefore the pathogenesis of diabetes can only

Genipin‐Crosslinked, Silane‐Anchored 3D Tumor–Stroma Microtissues for High‐Content On‐Chip Drug Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We describe a microfluidic tumor‐stroma co‐culture model, engineered to resist collagen‐hydrogel contraction driven by fibroblast activity. Surface silanization with APTES covalently anchors the matrix to the chip, while Genipin crosslinking progressively increases stiffness and elasticity without harming cells. This supports >10 days of co‐culture and

Role of edge inclination in optical microdisk resonator for label-free sensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we report on the measurement and modelling of enhanced optical refractometric sensors based on whispering-gallery-modes. The devices under test are optical microresonators made of silicon nitride on silicon oxide.

Fiber Optic Array Biosensors

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2006
Optical fiber arrays provide a powerful substrate for creating high-density sensing systems that can address a variety of biological problems. The fiber substrate can be used to create femtoliter wells that can be loaded with individual beads to create high-density arrays for multiplexed screening and analysis.

Engineering of Glioblastoma‐Derived Biomimetic Vesicles and Their Structural and Molecular Features

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biomimetic nanosystems and vesicles have arisen as a novel approach to design vesicular transport systems with diverse therapeutic potential. The ‘biomimetic’ strategy involves the integration of cell membrane components into lipid bilayers, conferring them with biological properties originating from the cell of origin. Until now, most studies

A novel colorimetric biosensor based on non-aggregated Au@Ag core–shell nanoparticles for methamphetamine and cocaine detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We report a novel colorimetric biosensor based on non-aggregation Au@Ag core-shell nanoparticles to detect methamphetamine and cocaine. The biosensor consisted of a reporter probe (RP) that is a specific single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) sequence coated on Au ...

Coaxially Electrospun Myocardial dECM‐ Based Nanofibrous Scaffolds Demonstrate Enhanced Cardiomyocyte Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Our coaxial electrospinning system is capable of incorporating decellularized myocardial extracellular matrix in a core‐sheath configuration, creating nanofibrous scaffolds. These scaffolds, in turn, support the maintenance of functional cardiomyocytes adhered to the surface of these bioactive scaffolds.
