Abstract Optical bistability due to biexcitons in CuCl is discussed with respect to its physical origin. We show that switching times and switching intensities are functions of the photon energy of the exciting light beam.

Intrinsic Optical Bistability in a Cavity
Physical Review A, 1990The nonlinear oscillator model including propagation has an interesting optical bistable characteristic behavior, which has been studied by Goldstone and Garmire1 and, extensively, by Haus et al2. The authors show that this medium exhibits optical bistability without a cavity due to increased absorption.

Optical bistability of graphene embedded in parity-time-symmetric photonic lattices
Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 2019We investigate the optical bistability of graphene in parity-time-symmetric (PT-symmetric) photonic lattices incorporated with a defect at terahertz frequencies.

Dynamical switching and memory via incoherent pump assisted optical bistability
Physics Letters, 2019We analyze the dynamical behavior of all-optical switching and memory based on tunable optical bistability in a three-level Λ-type atomic system driven by a probe field circulating in an optical ring cavity, a coherent coupling field and an incoherent ...

A sensitive biosensor based on optical bistability in a semiconductor quantum dot-DNA nanohybrid
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2018We propose a scheme of a sensitive biosensor based on optical bistability (OB) in a biological semiconductor quantum dot (SQD)-DNA coupled nanohybrid. By plotting bistability phase diagrams within the system’s parameter space, we show that the bistable ...

We consider the problem of the wave propagation through a nonlinear medium. We derive a dynamic system that governs the behavior of standing (or solitary) waves. The form of this system alone suffices to understand the qualitative dependence of solutions of the original equation on the intensity of the incident wave.
