Display Light Panel and Rolling Shutter Image Sensor Based Optical Camera Communication (OCC) Using Frame-Averaging Background Removal and Neural Network

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2021
Optical wireless communication (OWC) has emerged as a complementary or alternative technology to the radio-frequency (RF) communication. OWC based on image sensor, which is also called optical camera communication (OCC) has attracted much attention from industrial and academic societies. Here, we discuss several recent OCC technologies.

Survey of indoor optical camera communication (OCC) systems for the Internet of lights

2017 International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Convergence (ICTC), 2017
In this paper, we propose the architecture and schemes of optical camera communication (OCC) system for the internet of lights (IoL) comprising an attentive indoor environment in which rolling-shutter cameras (including smartphone cameras) are used to receive data from light sources.

Asynchronous scheme for unidirectional optical camera communications (OCC)

2014 Sixth International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN), 2014
This paper proposes software-based scheme for unidirectional communications of OCC system. Proposed scheme based on over-sampling technique will solve fully effects of exposure to the unidirectional OCC system where there is no synchronization. These schemes do not consider mitigating flicker, and then they are suitable for both global shutter and ...

OCC Protocol for connected LEDs in Optical Camera Communication Networks

2018 Tenth International Conference on Ubiquitous and Future Networks (ICUFN), 2018
Nowadays, and Internet of Lights (IoL) can be used to help a variety of lights in home, building, factory, city, and so on. The achievement of wireless communication technologies have brought convenience and amazing services to users. The hybrid use of wireless technologies in a system is not a novel idea, however, in this paper, we introduce the ...

Wide Field-of-View (FOV) Light-Diffusing Fiber Optical Transmitter for Rolling Shutter based Optical Camera Communication (OCC)

Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2022, 2022
We propose a wide field-of-view (FOV) light-diffusing-fiber (LDF) transmitter optical-camera-communication (OCC). Pixel-row-per-bit-neural-network (PRPB-NN) is employed for rolling-shutter-pattern decoding. PRPB-NN provides efficient decoding at 360o around LDF circumference and 160o Rx rotation-angle at 2100-bit/s.

Z-Score Averaging Neural Network and Background Content Removal for High Performance Rolling Shutter based Optical Camera Communication (OCC)

Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2021, 2021
We propose and demonstrate using Z-score averaging neural-network (Z-NN) and background-content-removal (BCR) to mitigate the inter-symbol-interference (ISI) in camera-communication (OCC). 950-bit/s over 3-m free-space transmission is achieved.

An indoor positioning method in a concert hall using optical camera communication (OCC) technology

2017 International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Convergence (ICTC), 2017
Recent smart devices offer technologies that can measure indoor as well as outdoor locations. In the case of outdoor positioning, a global positioning system (GPS) is generally used. There is a limit to the method of using the GPS signal for indoor positioning.

Markov Models for predicting the Internet of Behaviour (IoB) of tourists: Optical Camera Communications (OCC) as a localization tool for indoor touristic scenarios

2023
This work proposes a simulation tool of a system aimed to predict the movements of tourists in an indoor scenario. It is based on a visible light positioning (VLP) system using LED lamps and an App in the user's mobile phone. VLP offers a dual illumination-location solution and provides highly accurate indoor positioning data of the user, able to feed ...
