A method for optical signaling is investigated that allows multiple transmitters to simultaneously use the same noncoherent receiving aperture. The signaling is based on the properties of laser speckle interference patterns. Capacity for an interference limited system is explored for a correlation receiver based on random coding.

2009 11th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2009
The use of spread spectrum technology continues to be of interest in optical communication networks. Fiber-optic systems offer access to large bandwidth and ultra-high signal processing speeds are possible in the optical medium. Optical code-division multiple-access (O-CDMA) is therefore evolving into a promising candidate for next-generation broadband

Optical CDMA enhanced by nonlinear optics
2010 12th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2010Intended for the next generation of optical access networks, OCDMA is of great interest to meet the demand of increasing the number of users per access fiber, especially as spectral phase coding increases its performance in the optical domain. This, however, requires handling broad spectra and short pulses, which are best dealt with using opto ...

Coherent Optical CDMA with low MAI
2007 41st Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems, 2007A novel coherent optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) network based on phase and polarization diversity balanced reception of spectrally encoded optical pulses is proposed. Spectral efficiencies of 1 bps/Hz and beyond can be achieved by minimizing multiple access interference (MAI) and by cancelling beat noise.

The role of optical CDMA in access networks
IEEE Communications Magazine, 2002We investigate the possible role of optical CDMA (O-CDMA) in future access networks. We begin with a short review of the O-CDMA technique for those unfamiliar with the technology. Next, we investigate in detail those characteristics of O-CDMA that make it an attractive technology for application in metro access networks: fairness, flexibility ...

Optical CDMA with overlapping PPM
ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Record. Affiliated with SUPERCOMM'98 (Cat. No.98CH36220), 2002Direct-detection optical code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems employing overlapping pulse-position modulation (OPPM) schemes are proposed. A union upper bound on the bit error rate is derived taking into account the effect of both multiple-user interference and receiver shot noise.

Performance of ATM traffic in optical CDMA
International Journal of Communication Systems, 2001AbstractAn ATM transit switch is proposed based on direct sequence optical code division multiple access technique. No buffering is necessary to facilitate the switching. Code conversion is used instead to emulate the switching function. The switch not only provides asynchronous access to the users but also has a limited capability of dynamic bandwidth

Optical CDMA protocol with selective retransmission
Proceedings. ISCC 2004. Ninth International Symposium on Computers And Communications (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8769), 2004New protocol for optical code-division multiple access (CDMA) networks is proposed. Our proposed protocol is based on selective retransmission technique. A mathematical model is presented using a detailed state diagram. The protocol is analyzed using equilibrium point analysis (EPA), and its performance is examined using traditional throughput and ...
