Nonlinear optical characterisation of organic chromophores and aspects of molecular aggregation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The work presented in this thesis describes an investigation into the properties and behaviour of a new class of nonlinear optical organic chromophores.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Magneto-optic properties of highly Dy3+-doped GeO2-B2O3 glasses for NIR optical applications

open access: yesResults in Physics
Recent progress in the development of optical communication and high power laser systems in the near-infrared (NIR) region (1.5 to 2.0 μm) increased the demand for magneto-optic (MO) devices employing MO materials.

Probing of ultrahigh optical Q-factors of individual liquid microdroplets on superhydrophobic surfaces using tapered optical fiber waveguides

open access: yes, 2014
We report measurements of ultrahigh quality factors (Q-factors) of the optical whispering-gallery modes excited via a tapered optical-fiber waveguide in single glycerol-water microdroplets standing on a superhydrophobic surface in air.

Bifurcation analysis of a semiconductor laser with filtered optical feedback

open access: yes, 2006
We study the dynamics and bifurcations of a semiconductor laser with delayed filtered feedback, where a part of the output of the laser re-enters after spectral filtering.

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Optical properties of lead-bismuth cuprous glasses

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Physics, 2010
The optical transmission and absorption spectra in UV-VIS were recorded in the wavelength range 350-800 nm for different glass compositions in the system: (CuO)x (PbO)50-x (Bi2O3)50 (x=2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 20.0). Absorption coefficient {α (λ)

Phase Manipulation of Constant-Intensity Waves in Disordered Optical Structures

open access: yes, 2018
In this presentation, we investigate the phase control of constant-intensity waves propagating through disordered optical structures. By introducing the separate control of optical phase and amplitude, we show that random phase evolutions obeying the ...
