Crosstalk in a bidirectional optical fiber

Fiber and Integrated Optics, 1978
Abstract Full-duplex communications in a single optical fiber is both feasible and practical in certain applications. The main problem is crosstalk between the two directions. This paper reviews the sources of crosstalk, gives its magnitude, and describes techniques to reduce crosstalk.

Crosstalk-Aware Automated Mapping for Optical Networks-on-Chip

ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems, 2016
Optical networks-on-chip (NoCs) provide a promising answer to address the increasing requirements of ultra-high bandwidth and extremely low power consumption. Designing a photonic interconnect, however, involves a number of challenges that have no equivalent in the electronic domain, particularly the crosstalk noise, which affects the signal-to-noise ...

Crosstalk Measurements in a Linear Optical Amplifier

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications, 2001
The crosstalk in a new single-chip linear optical amplifier (LOA), based on gain clamping with a cross-cavity long-wavelength VCSEL, has been measured dynamically up to 20 GHz, achieving less than –25 dB crosstalk for all frequencies. This improved performance is compared to existing conventional and gain clamped SOAs.

Homodyne crosstalk in optical cross-connects

SPIE Proceedings, 2001
Homodyne crosstalk in multiwavelength optical cross-connects (OXC) is studied. The bit error rate (BER) and power penalty due to the incoherent and coherent crosstalk are derived for IM-DD transmission. The impact of the WDM wavelength number, same-source crosstalk number, the cross-connecting state of the OXC, the polarization angle difference between

Self-Defocusing and Optical Crosstalk in a Bistable Optical Etalon

1984
Two transverse phenomena associated with a bistable optical etalon are discussed. The first is self-defocusing1 of the laser beam due to the nonlinear dispersion of the medium inside the bistable Fabry-Perot etalon. Good agreement is found between GaAs data and one-dimensional numerical simulations.

Reduction of optical crosstalk in silicon photomultipliers

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
The Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) is a novel device for low level light detection in various applications, for example scintillator- and fiber readout. 1;2 The SiPM is insensitive to magnetic fields and has a high photon detection effciency. Current devices have a high optical crosstalk probability, which causes a significant increase of the excess ...

Low-crosstalk semiconductor optical amplifiers

Summaries of Papers Presented at the Lasers and Electro-Optics. CLEO '02. Technical Diges, 2003
Summary form only given. We have previously proposed that using a waveguide optical amplifier with an exponentially increased gain profile we can greatly reduce the crosstalk between different wavelength channels. In this work, we propose to use the selective-area-growth (SAG)-technique produced gain materials to implement such kind of exponentially ...

Crosstalk in multi-core optical fibres

37th European Conference and Exposition on Optical Communications, 2011
Achieving low crosstalk and high core density is one of the key challenges for multicore fibre. Advanced low-crosstalk designs aim for optimal mode confinement and additional phase-mismatch suppression robust to variations.

Crosstalk in Two Intersecting Optical Microfibers

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2019
Structural hybridization and size miniaturization of integrated photonic devices are among the hotspots of photonics research field. The crosstalk between densely arranged subwavelength-width optical waveguides such as optical microfibers has become an important issue.

A low-crosstalk semiconductor optical amplifier

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2004
A new type of semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) that can have a very low-channel crosstalk is proposed and demonstrated. By arranging the order of the gain materials with different saturation power, the SOA crosstalk is greatly reduced. This new type of SOA can be an ideal gain material for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) amplification and ...
