High-efficiency multipass optical limiter

Optics Letters, 2003
We report experimental results on a highly efficient optical limiter that uses a three-mirror, multipass ring configuration. The optical limiter's enhanced performance is based on the accumulative effect that is achieved when the laser beam passes through the sample several consecutive times.

Efficient optical frequency-comb generator

Optics Letters, 1995
We have demonstrated a method that efficiently transfers the power from a single-frequency laser into a wideband frequency comb. The comb was produced by a 2.7-GHz electro-optic modulator in a resonant optical cavity. A coupled cavity technique was used to transfer 8.5% of the laser power into a comb with a span of 400 modes, or more than 1 THz.

High efficiency optical diplexers

Applied Optics, 1982
This paper describes various interferometric optical circuits that could provide highly efficient combining of local oscillator and signal beams in heterodyne mixers. Already in use at millimeter wavelengths, they will be of particular importance in optical systems where the available local oscillator power is low.

Efficient encoding of natural optic flow

Network: Computation in Neural Systems, 2008
Statistically efficient processing schemes focus the resources of a signal processing system on the range of statistically probable signals. Relying on the statistical properties of retinal motion signals during ego-motion we propose a nonlinear processing scheme for retinal flow.

Optical efficiency of image sensor pixels

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2002
The ability to reproduce a high-quality image depends strongly on the image sensor light sensitivity. This sensitivity depends, in turn, on the materials, the circuitry, and the optical properties of the pixel. We calculate the optical efficiency of a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor pixel by using a geometrical-optics phase ...

High-efficiency rapidly programmable optical interconnections

Applied Optics, 1987
An array of optical Fredkin gates implemented by optically controlled waveguide couplers is shown to constitute a very efficient and versatile optical interconnection network with parallel addressing capabilities. The characteristics of the array are analyzed using linear algebra to indicate interconnect programming procedures.

Power-efficient dual-rate optical transceiver

Applied Optics, 2005
A dual-rate (2 Gbit/s and 100 Mbit/s) optical transceiver designed for power-efficient connections within and between modern high-speed digital systems is described. The transceiver can dynamically adjust its data rate according to performance requirements, allowing for power-on-demand operation.
