Accuracy Enhancement in Optical Computing.
1993Abstract : Investigations of techniques for describing and enhancing the accuracy of optical linear algebra processors have been conducted. Significant accomplishments include: (1) development and simulation of a system model incorporating device dynamic range for better quantitative assessment of error- correction code performance; (2) extension of ...

Enhancing optical nonlinearity
Science, 2020Optics Intense pulses of light interacting with a dielectric material can induce optical nonlinear behavior, whereby the frequency of the output light can be doubled or tripled or excited to even higher harmonics of the input light. Usually this interaction is weak and occurs over many thousands of wavelengths, typically requiring the combination of ...

Optical Trapping of Plasmonic Mesocapsules: Enhanced Optical Forces and SERS
The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2016We demonstrate optical trapping of plasmonic silica-gold mesocapsules and their use as local SERS probes in Raman tweezers. These novel hybrid dielectric-metal particles, designed for optoplasmonic applications, are mesoscopic porous silica shells embedding gold nanospheres in their inner wall.

Optical Resolution Enhancements
2021This chapter presents methods to improve and optimize the image quality for systems with a fixed wavelength and a fixed numerical aperture. Optical resolution enhancements are applied in various parts of the lithographic system. Several examples from the previous chapter have already indicated the strong impact of the spatial coherence or the geometry ...

Enhancement mechanisms for optical forces in integrated optics
SPIE Proceedings, 2006We investigate the extension of optical micromanipulation to integrated optics. In particular, we consider whether propagating light signals can cause mechanical reconfiguration of a device. While such forces are intrinsically weak, we predict theoretically that significant displacements can be achieved using various enhancement mechanisms.

Microcavity-Enhanced Surface Nonlinear Optics
2019 21st International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2019Confinement and manipulation of photons using microcavities have triggered intense research interest in both fundamental and applied photonics for decades. As a prominent example, whispering-gallery microcavities have ultrahigh Q factors and small mode volumes, making them promising candidates for enhancing light-matter interactions, especially for ...

Sensitivity Enhancement of Optical Immunosensors with Nanoparticles
Analytical Biochemistry, 1997In recent years, several optical sensor techniques have been developed for the direct monitoring of biomolecular recognition processes at the surface of a sensor chip. Applications of these immunosensors for the determination of substances in serum could be demonstrated only for a few analytes due to the lack of sensitivity.

Optic Nerve Enhancement in Hypotensive Ischemic Optic Neuropathy
Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, 2004A 57-year-old woman who had hypotension and cardiac arrest during coronary artery bypass grafting developed hypotensive ischemic optic neuropathy with no light perception vision OU. Bilateral mid-orbital optic nerve enhancement was found on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) eight weeks after surgery. Re-examination 16 weeks after surgery showed no light

Surface enhanced optical spectroscopies for bioanalysis
The Analyst, 2011Surface enhancement can provide improved detection sensitivity in a range of optical spectroscopies. When applied to bioanalysis these enhanced techniques allow for the detection of disease biomarkers at lower levels, which has a clear patient benefit.

Magneto-Optic Effects and Enhancement Methods
Proceedings of the 2020 2nd International Conference on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, 2020The magneto-optic (MO) effects, including Faraday Effect and magneto-optic Kerr Effect (MOKE), are widely used in many applications, such as imaging of magnetic domains, MOKE magnetometer, optical isolator and circulator. However, since the MO quality factor Q, which determines the strength of MO effect, is quite small for bare magnetic materials ...
