Enhanced optical limiting in derivatized fullerenes

Optics Letters, 1996
We have observed enhanced optical limiting behavior in solutions of a derivatized fullerene (phenyl-C(61)-butyric acid cholesteryl ester) from 532 to 700 nm. Transient absorption measurements determined the spectral and temporal regions of interest for optical limiting in C(60) and in C(60) derivatives that are due to a reverse saturable absorption ...

Cavity-enhanced spectroscopy in optical fibers

Optics Letters, 2002
Cavity-enhanced methods have been extended to fiber optics by use of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as reflectors. High-finesse fiber cavities were fabricated from FBGs made in both germanium/boron-co-doped photosensitive fiber and hydrogen-loaded Corning SMF-28 fiber.

Fiber-optic edge-enhancement network

Optics Letters, 1993
We report on the feasibility of using an optical fiber network to perform an edge-detection operation on a given image. If implemented in a hybrid optoelectronic format, the high time–bandwidth product of optical fiber and the supporting optoelectronics can be exploited to form a powerful processing subsystem for use in image-processing tasks.

Enhanced optical tracking

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Enhanced tracking is accomplished by increasing the resolution, frame rate and processing capabilities in tracking dynamic regions of interest for vision applications. In many proven algorithms, the ability to distinguish an object and track it is dependent on the system performance in more than one attribute.

Enhanced backscattering of optical vortex fields

Optics Letters, 2005
The effect of an incident field with a phase screw dislocation (a so-called optical vortex) on the shape of the enhanced backscattering cone was studied theoretically and demonstrated experimentally. We show that the correlation function of the incident field acts as a filter that modifies the shape of the enhanced backscattering cone.

Display resolution enhancement with optical scanners

Applied Optics, 2001
We have developed a novel, low-cost, and effective technique for display resolution and fill-factor enhancement. By using optical scanners with fast nematic liquid-crystal polarization switches and birefringent materials, we have increased the perceived pixel count of a low-resolution display and also its display fill factor.

Optically Enhanced Oxidation

1987
The use of intense optical radiation to stimulate the oxidation of silicon is described. By summarising all of the data published so far in the field, it is found that there must be several different mechanisms responsible for the observed effects on the oxidation process.
