Multisection semiconductor lasers for optical microwave generation have been fabricated that consist of a loss-coupled distributed feedback (LC-DFB), a phase control, and an amplifier section. High-frequency self-pulsations are generated according to the concept of a single-mode laser with short optical feedback.

Some aspects of feedback technique in optical systems are examined. The eigenfunctions suitable for describing systems where both space and frequency limitations occur are discussed. Applications to the generation of super-resolving pupils and to the band unlimited restoration of images are presented.

"Hybrid" TV optical systems seem to be useful for the translation of electronic feedback concepts into optics. They enable us to achieve active feedback and to simulate temporally varying two-dimensional (x,y)-processes. We report three optical counterparts of electronic feedback applications: the operational amplifier, the analog computer and the flip-

Optical feedback in photomultipliers
Measurement Techniques, 1968The measurements showed that, along with ordinary optical feedback, there occurs an optical feedback caused by ionic feedback; the contribution of the latter, however, to the overall background level is extremely small.

Feedback assisted optical couplers
Proceedings of Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2002Analytical and computed results are presented for optical circuits consisting of 2/spl times/2 or 3/spl times/3 couplers with a feedback loop. Such circuits are used in sensors and in communication equipment. They are characterized by resonance type behaviour and can be designed for wavelength dependent switching.

Laser feedback metrology of optical systems
Applied Optics, 1989A simple interferometric metrology instrument based on the effect of weak optical feedback on the power output of laser diodes is described. Laboratory demonstrations of the principle applied to the analysis of wavefront aberrations in optical systems is reported.

Smart pixel optical sensor based on positive optical feedback
Optics Letters, 2003A smart pixel optical sensor based on positive optical feedback is described and demonstrated. The scheme uses the reflectance of an external scene as part of the positive feedback loop and uses the nonlinear characteristics of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser to obtain bistability and hysteresis.

Confocal optical feedback processing system: an improved optical design
Applied Optics, 1983Coherent optical feedback in the form of a simple confocal resonator has been used to solve partial differential and integral equations. However, due to aberrations, the simple feedback system has a limited space–bandwidth product. An attempt is made here to increase the space–bandwidth product and the accuracy of the optical solution by introducing ...

New interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope with amplified optical feedback
Applied Optics, 1996A novel interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope with amplified optical feedback by an Er-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is proposed and theoretically investigated (the proposed gyroscope is named the feedback EDFA-FOG, FE-FOG in what follows). The FE-FOG functions like a resonant fiber-optic gyro (R-FOG) because of its multiple utilization of the Sagnac ...
