Recent Advances in Fiber-Optic Sensors for the Detection of Inorganic Acidic Gases
An acidic gas is an important basic chemical raw material used for synthesizing fertilizers, insecticides, explosives, dyes, and salts. Alternatively, inorganic acidic gases that leak into the air have harmful effects on the human health, infrastructure,

Distributed acoustic sensing with Michelson interferometer demodulation
The distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) has been extensively studied and widely used. A distributed acoustic sensing system based on the unbalanced Michelson interferometer with phase generated carrier (PGC) demodulation was designed and tested.

Inexpensive hetero-core spliced fiber optic setup for assessing strain [PDF]
We report here a novel experimental scheme for the measurement of strain that utilizes a simple intensity based interrogation system, based on optical fibers. Corresponding to splicing of a multimode fiber between two single mode fibers, the transmittance was measured by subjecting them to strain at multi points.

Temporal point-by-point arbitrary waveform synthesis beyond tera sample per second
Arbitrary waveform synthesizers are indispensable in modern information technology, yet electronic counterparts are limited by the speed of analog-to-digital converters to hundreds of GSa/s. While photonic-assisted synthesizers offer potential to surpass

Extraction of Bend-Resolved Modal Basis in Deformed Multimode Fiber [PDF]
Mode-mixing in fiber from mechanical bending leads to optical perturbations that distort the spatial field profile of coherent beams as they propagate through few or multiple-mode fiber. The observed output from a bent fiber commonly induces complex speckle, which is challenging to directly relate to the bend condition in the fiber, especially for ...
