Fiber Optical Sensing with Fiber Bragg Gratings
A new measurement method is presented utilizing glass fibers with inscribed Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG). Strain and temperature changes have direct effects on these gratings. With this technology and suitable transducers, however, also parameters like pressure, dislocation, vibration, acceleration, humidity and even chemicals can be monitored.

Spark plasma sintering enables rapid processing of porous organic polymer (POP) from fine powders to a freestanding and mechanically robust monolith. The sintering process retains the CO2 adsorption capacity and CO2/N2 selectivity, making the monolith more suitable as a solid sorbent for practical carbon capture applications.

Tailoring the Properties of Functional Materials With N‐Oxides
The properties of materials bearing N‐oxide groups are often dominated by the polar N+─O− bond. It provides hydrophilicity, selective ion‐binding, electric conductivity, or antifouling properties. Many of the underlying mechanisms have only recently been discovered, and the interest in N‐oxide materials is rapidly growing.
