Fibre Optic Sensors with Nano-Structured Coatings. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A review of optical fibre devices employing nano-structured coatings is presented. Active and passive coatings, deposited using the Langmuirâ  Blodgett and electro-static self-assembly techniques, have been utilised to influence the transmission ...

Digitalized Optical Sensor Network for Intelligent Facility Monitoring

open access: yesPhotonics
Due to their inherent advantages, optical fiber sensors (OFSs) can substantially contribute to the monitoring and performance enhancement of energy infrastructure. However, optical fiber sensor systems often are standalone solutions and do not connect to

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

High-speed, solid state, interferometric interrogator and multiplexer for fiber Bragg grating sensors

open access: yes, 2011
We report on the design and prototyping of a robust high-speed interferometric multiplexer and interrogator for fiber Bragg grating sensors. The scheme is based on the combination of active WDM channel switching and passive, instantaneous interferometry,

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Optical High-Capacity Satellite Downlinks via High-Altitude Platform Relays

open access: yes, 2007
Earth-observation (EO) satellite missions produce a large amount of data using high-resolution optical or radar sensors. During the last decades the amount of data has steadily increased due to improved sensor technologies with increased temporal ...

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Tissue surface as the reference arm in Fourier domain optical coherence tomography

open access: yes, 2012
We present a simple method applicable to common-path Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) in which the tissue surface is used as the reference arm.

Sensitive elements based on bacteriorhodopsin for fiber-optics sensors of chemical components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The sensitive thin film elements based on bacteriorhodopsin in polymeric matrixes for the multichannel fiber-optical sensor system of measurement of chemical composition of gas mixtures are offered. It is shown, that modification of films compositions

Reconstruction of Fan Beam X-Ray Fluorescence Computed Tomography Based on Parallel Hole Collimator via Total Variation and Ordered Subsets

open access: yesIEEE Access
In this paper, an Ordered Subsets Expectation Maximization (OSEM) reconstruction algorithm based on Total Variation (TV) constraint was applied for sparse reconstruction of X-ray fluorescence CT.
