mcstas_gisans: combining ray tracing with the distorted‐wave Born approximation using McStas and BornAgain for virtual GISANS experiments

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, Volume 59, Issue 3, Page 827-836, June 2026.
mcstas_gisans is a Python‐based framework that enables simulation of grazing‐incidence small‐angle neutron scattering experiments by integrating McStas and BornAgain into a single workflow. The mcstas_gisans framework is a collection of Python scripts and modules to facilitate the simulation of grazing‐incidence small‐angle neutron scattering (GISANS ...

Distributed Temperature and Strain Discrimination with Stimulated Brillouin Scattering and Rayleigh Backscatter in an Optical Fiber

open access: yesSensors, 2013
A distributed optical fiber sensor with the capability of simultaneously measuring temperature and strain is proposed using a large effective area non-zero dispersion shifted fiber (LEAF) with sub-meter spatial resolution.

Combined distributed Raman and Bragg fiber temperature sensing using incoherent optical frequency domain reflectometry [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sensors and Sensor Systems, 2018
Optical temperature sensors offer unique features which make them indispensable for key industries such as the energy sector. However, commercially available systems are usually designed to perform either distributed or distinct hot spot temperature ...

Towards machine‐learning‐based on‐the‐fly analysis of neutron reflectometry

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, Volume 59, Issue 3, Page 765-773, June 2026.
An automated machine‐learning‐based processing and analysis workflow for neutron reflectometry data is presented. The approach has been successfully used for on‐the‐fly analysis during an experiment at the Institut Laue–Langevin (Grenoble, France) and can be adapted to work at other neutron facilities seeking to enable real‐time feedback‐driven ...

Measurement Range Enhancement of Rayleigh-Based Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry With Bidirectional Determination

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
We report a noble coherent optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) system that simply enables measurement range enhancement up to full coherence length of a laser source.

Optical Path Testing for Fiber Optic Current Transformers Using Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry

open access: yesPhotonics
The long-term operational stability of a fiber optic current transformer (FOCT) is critically dependent on the integrity of its internal fiber optic loop.

Investigation of Side Wall Roughness Effect on Optical Losses in a Multimode Si3N4 Waveguide Formed on a Quartz Substrate

open access: yesPhotonics, 2020
This article presents the results of the study of the influence of the most significant parameters of the side wall roughness of an ultra-thin silicon nitride lightguide layer of multimode integrated optical waveguides with widths of 3 and 8 microns. The

Soil Crack Width Controls Preferential Flow Velocity Through Drag Partitioning

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract Preferential flow within soil cracks influences land surface hydrological processes, yet direct quantifying preferential flow velocity (PFV) remains challenging. Here, we develop a method for high‐resolution monitoring and quantifying PFV in soil cracks using optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR).

Direct Mode‐Resolved Measurement of Interfacial Phonon Transport by Acoustic Phonon Reflectometry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 10, 19 May 2026.
We introduce a novel analysis, acoustic phonon reflectometry, that measures the mode‐resolved phonon reflection coefficient at semiconductor interfaces. In aluminum nitride, we observe excellent agreement with the acoustic mismatch model across three distinct interfaces.
