Multipulse Excitability in a Semiconductor Laser with Optical Injection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2002
An optically injected semiconductor laser can produce excitable multipulses. Homoclinic bifurcation curves confine experimentally accessible regions in parameter space where the laser emits a certain number of pulses after being triggered from its steady state by a single perturbation.

Tunable Ultra-Broadband Microwave Frequency Combs Generation Based on a Current Modulated Semiconductor Laser Under Optical Injection

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
We have demonstrated and characterized the generation of ultra-broadband microwave frequency combs (MFCs) based on a current modulated distributed feedback semiconductor laser (DFB-SL) subject to optical injection, and the comb spacing of MFCs can be ...

Orbital Instability of Chaotic Laser Diode with Optical Injection and Electronically Applied Chaotic Signal

open access: yesPhotonics, 2020
We numerically studied the chaotic dynamics of a laser diode (LD) system with optical injection, where a chaotic signal, which is generated by an LD with optical feedback, is applied to the drive current of the master LD.

Period-One Laser Dynamics for Photonic Microwave Signal Generation and Applications

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
Due to the advantages of rich dynamics, small size, and easy integration, semiconductor lasers have many applications in microwave photonics. With a proper perturbation to invoke period-one (P1) nonlinear laser dynamics, a widely tunable microwave signal

Reflection-mode optical injection locking

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
A novel model including the interference effect of master laser reflection is established for reflection-mode optical injection locking. This model sheds insight on the physical origin of some rather distinct but unexplained modulation characteristics of optical injection-locked vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), including data pattern ...

Microwave Photonic Signal Generation in an Optically Injected Discrete Mode Semiconductor Laser

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
In this paper, microwave photonic signal generation based on the period-one dynamic of optically injected discrete mode (DM) semiconductor lasers has been experimentally demonstrated and numerically simulated.

Tunable and Broadband Microwave Frequency Comb Generation Using Optically Injected Semiconductor Laser Nonlinear Dynamics

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
Based on an optically injected semiconductor laser (OISL) operating at period-one (P1) nonlinear dynamical state, tunable and ultrabroadband microwave frequency combs (MFCs) are generated experimentally through further current-modulating the OISL. First,

Wideband Photonic Microwave Frequency Divider With Large Harmonic Suppression Capability

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
An all-optical photonic microwave frequency divider (PMFD) is presented. It is based on injecting an RF phase modulated optical signal into a semiconductor laser oscillating in the period-two state.
