Adaptive optical interconnection
Optics Letters, 1991We explore the ability of a double phase-conjugate mirror to compensate for thermal, vibrational, and other environmental fluctuations. This property lends itself to the establishment and maintenance of bidirectional optical interconnections. We further introduce a bidirectional interconnection scheme that utilizes two wavelengths.

Optical Interconnects for Network on Chip
2006 1st International Conference on Nano-Networks and Workshops, 2006This paper resumes some state-of-the-art results of research in view of the realization of optical interconnects as physical link for Network on Chip (NoC). Emphasis is given in particular to amorphous Silicon technology for its actual technological compatibility with CMOS microchips.

Rationale for optical interconnect
Proceedings of 2010 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2010The System on Chip (SoC) approach is now the essential solution for delivering competitive performance and cost in today's challenging electronics market. Ever-increasing integration density means that many design and fabrication issues arise however, and the electrical limits of interconnect wires are in particular a limiting factor for performance ...

Alignability of optical interconnects
Annual Meeting Optical Society of America, 1989A theory for analyzing the alignability, the degree of difficulty of aligning the devices and light beams, of a given optical interconnection system is developed. From various experiments it has been found that the alignment of a basic optical interconnect consisting of one beam and one device is a random process, N(0,σ).

Optical interconnects in systems
Proceedings of the IEEE, 2000Future enhancement of system performance will decreasingly rely on reduction in transistor dimensions. Rather, performance gains will increasingly come from improved hardware and software architectures and emerging technologies such as optical interconnects, which provide a new design space for system designers.

Optical interconnection of optical modules
SPIE Proceedings, 1990ABSTRACT' The purpose of this paper is to explore the use and misuse of nonlinear optics as a way of connecting complex optical modules. For applications, such as neural networks, that need large numbers of interconnections and have numerous stages, the optical to optical interconnect is attractive.

A Survey of On-Chip Optical Interconnects
ACM Computing Surveys, 2019Numerous challenges present themselves when scaling traditional on-chip electrical networks to large manycore processors. Some of these challenges include high latency, limitations on bandwidth, and power consumption. Researchers have therefore been looking for alternatives.

Photorefractive optics in dynamic interconnection
Proceedings of the IEEE, 1999Describes various techniques to implement optical dynamic interconnections using the photorefractive effect. Two categories of optical dynamic interconnections are discussed. One is based on free-space optics and the other on guided optics. These include a real-time volume hologram, a mutually pumped phase conjugator, a spatial light modulator, a ...
