Nonlinear optical beam propagation for optical limiting [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 1999
We implement numerical modeling of high-energy laser-pulse propagation through bulk nonlinear optical materials using focused beams. An executable program with a graphical user interface is made available to researchers for modeling the propagation of beams through materials much thicker than the diffraction length (up to 10(3) times longer). Ultrafast

On the limits of optical interconnects

Applied Optics, 1992
The density capabilities of free-space optical interconnects are analyzed by applying Gabor's theory of information. It is shown that it is possible to increase the space-bandwidth product capabilities of space-variant interconnect schemes if they have symmetry properties.

Diffraction-limited broadband optical meta-power-limiter

Optics Letters, 2021
In recent years, the need for a high-power laser has been of great interest for different applications, including direct-laser processing, light detection, medicine, and lighting. However, high-power lasers with high intensities give rise to fundamental problems for optical detectors and imaging systems with low threshold damage, which still need ...

2D TiS2 Layers: A Superior Nonlinear Optical Limiting Material

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, 2017
The advancement in high power lasers has urged the requisite of efficient optical limiting materials for both eye and sensor protection. The discovery of atomically thin 2D transition metal dichacogenides with distinctive properties has paved the way for

Thermal Limitations in Optical Logic

Applied Optics, 1969
The problem of removing the heat produced in logical operations limits the density to which logical elements can be packed in large computers employing many elements. The basic minimum power dissipation in elements that use optical phenomena to perform logic operations is estimated from physical laws.

Fundamental limits of optical microrheology

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2004
We estimate the fundamental limits of different microrheological techniques based on optical detection. It is suggested that particle tracking systems using nondifferential detection have a minimum detectable displacement given by 0.2(lambda0/NA)(1/square root of (SNR)), where lambda0 is the wavelength, NA is the numerical aperture of the focusing ...

Influence of structure on the optical limiting properties of nanotubes

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2005
We investigate the role of carbon nanotubes structure on their optical limiting properties. Samples of different and well-characterized structural features are studied by optical limiting and pump-probe experiments.

Optical Limiting Applications

2002
Most promising applications of C60 fullerene are in the field of optoelectronics and nonlinear optics (NLO). Photovoltaic cells and infrared detectors are among actively pursued optoelectronic applications while, in the field of NLO, after some initial emphasis on third-order responses, such as intensity dependent refractive index, the focus is now ...
