Nanoscale all-optical logic devices
Science China Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy, 2018Commercial computers based on electronic logic devices have brought great changes to the world. However, traditional electronic devices are suffering from numerous technical challenges in their attempts to continue to satisfy Moore’s law. All-optical logic devices, as promising successors to their electronic counterparts, have become a major focus of ...

Semiconductor optical amplifier based optical logic devices
SPIE Proceedings, 2005All optical Boolean logic functionality has been demonstrated experimentally using integrated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) based interferometry at 40 Gb/s. The demonstrated functions are XOR, AND, and OR. The performance of the operations has been analyzed by solving the rate equation of the SOA numerically. The high-speed operation is limited

Adaptive Optical Logic And Switching Devices
SPIE Proceedings, 1988Tunable Optical Bistability, where a low power control beam is used to adapt the hysteresis response and the switching of optically bistable elements, is shown to occur in various systems with a bichromatic input. Some applications of this are suggested for more complex logic gates and for pattern recognition.

Field-programmable logic devices with optical input–output
Applied Optics, 2000A field-programmable logic device (FPLD) with optical I/O is described. FPLD's with optical I/O can have their functionality specified in the field by means of downloading a control-bit stream and can be used in a wide range of applications, such as optical signal processing, optical image processing, and optical interconnects.

All-optical logic devices with cascaded nonlinear couplers
Applied Optics, 2000The switching behaviors of cascaded nonlinear couplers were investigated. They have nearly ideal digital-switching characteristics, and their output power levels can be adjusted by means of varying the nonlinear coupling coefficient of the final coupler.
