An optical curvature sensor for flexible manipulators
2013 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2013Flexible manipulators have promising applications in minimally invasive surgery as it allows the surgical tools reach targets which are prohibited by conventional rigid surgical instrument. However one of the technical difficulties of implementing the flexible manipulator is to measure the bending curvature.

Imaging and Optically Manipulating Neuronal Ensembles
Annual Review of Biophysics, 2017The neural code that relates the firing of neurons to the generation of behavior and mental states must be implemented by spatiotemporal patterns of activity across neuronal populations. These patterns engage selective groups of neurons, called neuronal ensembles, which are emergent building blocks of neural circuits.

Optical Manipulation along an Optical Axis with a Polarization Sensitive Meta-Lens.
Nano letters (Print), 2018The ability to manipulate small objects with focused laser beams opens a broad spectrum of opportunities in fundamental and applied studies, for which precise control over mechanical path and stability is required.

Optical Manipulation of Microscale Fluid Flow
Physical Review Letters, 2003A novel optical method is used both to probe and to control dynamics in experiments on the spreading of microscale liquid films over solid substrates. The flow is manipulated by thermally induced surface-tension gradients that are regulated by controlling the absorption of light in the substrate.

In-Vitro Optically Aided Robotics Manipulation
2011 IEEE 5th International Conference on Robotics, Automation and Mechatronics (RAM), 2011This paper demonstrates the embedded application of a novel manipulator design for field robotics applications, specifically for underwater robotics applications. The In-Vitro Optically Aided Robotic Manipulation (IVOARM) constitutes a blind grasping concept using two anthropomorphic fingers with the aid of the directional force sensors and infra-red ...

Manipulation of solitons in optical fiber experiments.
Nonlinear Optics and its Applications 2024In nonlinear physics, the fundamental soliton has drawn significant attention due to its pivotal role in dynamic systems. Its remarkable property lies in maintaining shape and resilience when interacting with other nonlinear waves. We explore this phenomenon in the context of single-mode optical fibers, employing the one-dimensional nonlinear ...

Manipulation and measurement by optical tweezers on a cell
MHS2013, 2013By use of optical tweezers, micron to nanometer sized objects can be manipulated. This method has possibilities to realize surgery of a cell and investigation of mechanical property of a cell. In this article a novel scheme to enhance instantaneous radiation pressure force by use of a pulse laser and a measurement scheme are presented.

Optical Manipulation in Aerosol Optical Tweezers
2011Condensed phase optical manipulation techniques were pioneered by Ashkin, who demonstrated the first use of radiation pressure to guide particles in 1970 and later the first single-beam gradient force trap (optical tweezers) in 1986. Since then there have been numerous studies that make use of condensed phase optical tweezers, and that have sought to ...
