3D Modeling of Optically Challenging Objects [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2008
We present a system for constructing 3D models of real-world objects with optically challenging surfaces. The system utilizes a new range imaging concept called multi-peak range imaging, which stores multiple candidates of range measurements for each point on the object surface.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Elastic and inelastic scattering of the 14C + 18O nuclei [PDF]

open access: yesЯдерна фізика та енергетика, 2010
New angular-distribution data of 14С + 18О elastic and inelastic scattering at the energy Elab(18O) = 105 MeV were obtained firstly. The data were analysed within the optical model and coupled-reaction-channels methods including contributions from most ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Global potential of interaction for 16O + 12C- and 12C + 12C-diffractive scattering in the wide energy range [PDF]

open access: yesЯдерна фізика та енергетика, 2014
Detailed study of the behavior of experimental differential cross sections for the 16О + 12С-, 12С + 12С-elastic scatte¬ring in the energy range from 1 to 200 MeV/nucleon have been carried out. It is found that differential cross sections in the range of

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Mixture models for optical flow computation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 1995
The computation of optical flow relies on merging information available over an image patch to form an estimate of 2-D image velocity at a point. This merging process raises many issues. These include the treatment of outliers in component velocity measurements and the modeling of multiple motions within a patch which arise from occlusion boundaries or

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

7Li(15N,14C)8Be reaction and 13,14C + 8Be nuclei interactions

open access: yesЯдерна фізика та енергетика, 2017
Angular distributions of the 7Li(15N,14C)8Be reaction were measured at the energy Elab(15N) = 81 MeV. The reaction data were analyzed within coupled-reaction-channels (CRC) method. The 7Li + 15N elastic and inelastic scattering and the more important one-

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
