Optical performance monitoring for OFDM using low bandwidth coherent receivers.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
We propose using low bandwidth coherent receivers for distributed optical performance monitoring. We demonstrate optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring of both 20-Gb/s single-polarization and 40-Gb/s polarization-multiplexed coherent optical ...

Exploring surface‐guided systems for intelligent breathing‐adapted four‐dimensional computed tomography: A comparison to infrared‐based reflective marker systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study evaluates the technical feasibility of adapting a surface monitoring system, designed for conventional four‐dimensional computed tomography (4DCT), to an intelligent, breathing‐adapted 4DCT and examines its potential to expand the currently limited range of supported surrogate systems.

Assessing the rigidity of thermoplastic masks for head immobilization effectiveness in stereotactic radiosurgery

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study compared three Brainlab thermoplastic masks—Cranial 4pi basic, stereotactic (Close Mask V2), and open‐face—to see how well they limited head movement during Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS). Using a head phantom, we tested rotational movements (pitch, yaw, and roll) and measured displacements with the ExacTrac system.

Functionality Enhancement of Industrialized Optical Fiber Sensors and System Developed for Full-Scale Pavement Monitoring

open access: yesSensors, 2014
Pavements always play a predominant role in transportation. Health monitoring of pavements is becoming more and more significant, as frequently suffering from cracks, rutting, and slippage renders them prematurely out of service.

High-Fidelity Optical Monitoring of Laser Powder Bed Fusion via Aperture Division Multiplexing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Qualification of high-performance metal components produced by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) must identify process-induced porous defects that reduce ductility and nucleate fatigue cracking. Detecting such defects via optical monitoring of LPBF provides a path towards in-process quality control without downstream testing such as by computed tomography.

Optical performance monitoring using the novel parametric asynchronous eye diagram.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
In this paper we present a novel technique, based in what we have called Parametric Asynchronous Eye Diagram (PAED). We have used a simulation scheme, which includes a differentiator and an Artificial Neural Network to monitor simultaneously several ...

Geometric and dosimetric evaluation of a commercial AI auto‐contouring tool on multiple anatomical sites in CT scans

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Current radiotherapy practices rely on manual contouring of CT scans, which is time‐consuming, prone to variability, and requires highly trained experts. There is a need for more efficient and consistent contouring methods. This study evaluated the performance of the Varian Ethos AI auto‐contouring tool to assess its potential integration into

In vivo transit dosimetry methodology for whole breast intensity modulated radiation therapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background In vivo transit dosimetry using an electronic portal imaging device (EPID‐IVTD) is an important tool for verifying the accuracy of radiation therapy treatments. Despite its potential, the implementation of EPID‐IVTD in breast intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) treatments has not yet been standardized, limiting its clinical

Evaluation of dosimetric and spatial accuracy of a virtual cone technique for radiosurgery using linac‐integrated CBCT‐based polymer gel dosimetry

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study evaluates the dosimetric and geometric precision of a virtual cone technique using CBCT‐based polymer gel dosimetry, enabling radiation delivery, and imaging readout within an identical spatial coordinate system. Methods We created a C# script for a virtual cone technique that generates a treatment plan with 10 gantry arcs ...

Performance Evaluation of PPP-BOTDA-Based Distributed Optical Fiber Sensors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2012
The basic sensing behaviors of Pulse-Prepump Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis- (PPP-BOTDA-) based distributed fiber optic sensors (DFOSs) with a spatial resolution on the order of 0.1 m are first experimentally studied.
