Synthesis of high-order bandpass filters based on coupled-resonator optical waveguides (CROWs) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present a filter design formalism for the synthesis of coupled-resonator optical waveguide (CROW) filters. This formalism leads to expressions and a methodology for deriving the coupling coefficients of CROWs for the desired filter responses and is ...

Local Chirality of Optical Resonances in Ultrasmall Resonators

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2012
In wavelength-scale cavities with chiral-symmetric geometry, wave optical effects can introduce local chirality, that is, a spatial separation of the clockwise and counterclockwise propagating resonant modes. We show that this local chirality results in unidirectional lasing emission in the far field. In the presence of a waveguide, the local chirality

Supercooling of Atoms in an Optical Resonator

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2016
We investigate laser cooling of an ensemble of atoms in an optical cavity. We demonstrate that when atomic dipoles are sychronized in the regime of steady-state superradiance, the motion of the atoms may be subject to a giant frictional force leading to potentially very low temperatures.

FDG‐PET Associations With Disease Severity and Outcomes in NMDA‐Receptor IgG Autoimmune Encephalitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate (NMDA) receptor‐immunoglobulin G (IgG) autoimmune encephalitis (NMDAR‐IgG AE) demonstrate occipital lobe hypometabolism on baseline brain fluorodeoxyglucose‐positron emission tomography (bFDG‐PET).

Reversing annealing-induced optical loss in diamond microcavities [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Photonics
A key challenge for quantum photonic technologies based on spin qubits is the creation of optically active defects in photonic resonators. Several of the most promising defects for quantum applications are hosted in diamond and are commonly created ...

Diamond Integrated Optomechanical Circuits

open access: yes, 2013
Diamond offers unique material advantages for the realization of micro- and nanomechanical resonators due to its high Young's modulus, compatibility with harsh environments and superior thermal properties. At the same time, the wide electronic bandgap of

Normalization of quasinormal modes in leaky optical cavities and plasmonic resonators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We discuss three formally different formulas for normalization of quasinormal modes currently in use for modeling optical cavities and plasmonic resonators and show that they are complementary and provide the same result.

Posterior Cortical Atrophy in the Asia‐Pacific: A Report From the PCA Asian Workgroup

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) is a distinct dementia syndrome primarily affecting spatial abilities and visual processing. It is associated with degeneration in the posterior part of the brain. PCA is subclassified into PCA‐pure and PCA‐plus syndromes based on consensus criteria.

Focused Xe‐Ion Plasma Beam Milling of Coumarin‐153 Single Crystals Into Photonic Cavities–Experimental and Theoretical Investigations

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling with Ga‐ions enabled early success in fabricating photonic cavities in organic crystals, advancing crystal photonic foundry. However, Ga‐ion milling often causes contamination and amorphization.

Bottom-up nanocolloidal metamaterials and metasurfaces at optical frequencies

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Physique, 2020
Metamaterials and metasurfaces are artificial composite media engineered to exhibit extraordinary properties of wave propagation. In bulk (3D) metamaterials, such extreme properties may result from non-conventional values of effective homogeneous optical
