DFT-Based Design and Characterization of Organic Chromophores Based on Symmetric Thio-Bridge Quinoxaline Push–Pull (STQ-PP) for Solar Cells

open access: yesMolecules
Organic solar cells require molecular materials with broad absorption and proper energy-level alignment to maximize photon harvesting and charge transport; in this context, this work focuses on the computational design and characterization of π ...

Spatial probabilistic mapping of metabolite ensembles in mass spectrometry imaging

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Spatial visualization of metabolites in tissues via mass spectrometry imaging can be prone to user perception bias. Here, the authors report the computational framework moleculaR that introduces probabilistic data-dependent molecular mapping of nonrandom

Optical Spectroscopy of Comets

open access: yesBulletin de la Société Royale des Sciences de Liège
Comets are pristine remnants of the Solar system, composed of dust and ice. They remain inactive and undetectable for most of their orbit due to low temperatures. However, as they approach the Sun, volatile materials sublimate, expelling dust and creating a visible coma.

Measurement of the Filling Degree and Droplet Size of Individual Double Emulsion Droplets Using Raman Technologies

open access: yesChemosensors, 2022
Double emulsions arouse great interest in various industries due to their ability to encapsulate value-adding ingredients. However, they tend to be unstable due to their complex structure.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Applications of Nickel‐Based Electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Energy & Sustainability Research, 2022
The desire to exploit clean and sustainable energy sources with high gravimetric energy density has greatly inspired the exploration of hydrogen energy as an affordable alternative to fossil energy. Electrocatalytic water splitting is an efficient method

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Liquid-Plasma Hydrogenated Synthesis of Gray Titania with Engineered Surface Defects and Superior Photocatalytic Activity

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2020
Defect engineering in photocatalysts recently exhibits promising performances in solar-energy-driven reactions. However, defect engineering techniques developed so far rely on complicated synthesis processes and harsh experimental conditions, which ...
