On-chip silicon photonic controllable 2 × 2 four-mode waveguide switch

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Multimode optical switch is a key component of mode division multiplexing in modern high-speed optical signal processing. In this paper, we introduce for the first time a novel 2 × 2 multimode switch design and demonstrate in the proof-of-concept.

Ultrafast and energy-efficient all-optical switching with graphene-loaded deep-subwavelength plasmonic waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
All-optical switches have attracted attention because they can potentially overcome the speed limitation of electric switches. However, ultrafast, energy-efficient all-optical switches have been challenging to realize due to the intrinsically small optical nonlinearity in existing materials.

Design and simulation of low power consumption polymeric based MMI thermo-optic switch [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In optical communication system, optical cross connect devices particularly an optical switch has become the main attraction for research due to its ability to route optical data signals without the need for conversion to electrical signals.

Controllable optical bistability and Fano line shape in a hybrid optomechanical system assisted by Kerr medium: Possibility of all optical switching

open access: yes, 2017
We theoretically analyze the optical and optomechanical nonlinearity present in a hybrid system consisting of a quantum dot(QD) coupled to an optomechanical cavity in the presence of a nonlinear Kerr medium, and show that this hybrid system can be used ...

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae amino acid transporter Lyp1 has a broad substrate spectrum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Yeast Amino acid Transporter family members mediate the import of amino acids, ranging from substrate specialists to generalists. Here, we show that the specialist transporter, Lyp1, has a broader substrate spectrum than previously described, with affinity constants spanning from micromolar to millimolar.

Optical switch compatible with wavelength division multiplexing and mode division multiplexing for photonic networks-on-chip.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
We propose a 2 × 2 multimode optical switch, which is composed of two mode de-multiplexers, n 2 × 2 single-mode optical switches where n is the number of the supported spatial modes, and two mode multiplexers.

A Controller for Si MZI-Based Spanke-Benes Optical Switch Fabric With Automatic Calibration Capability

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2023
We demonstrate an FPGA-based controller for Si MZI-based Spanke-Benes 4 × 4 optical switch fabric that can automatically calibrate each individual switching cell and select the desired routing configuration.

Optical memory based on ultrafast wavelength switching in a bistable microlaser [PDF]

open access: yesOpt. Lett. 34, 3310-3312 (2009), 2009
We propose an optical memory cell based on ultrafast wavelength switching in coupled-cavity microlasers, featuring bistability between modes separated by several nanometers. A numerical implementation is demonstrated by simulating a two-dimensional photonic crystal microlaser. Switching times of less than 10 ps, switching energy around 15--30 fJ and on-

Equivalent random analysis of a buffered optical switch with general interarrival times [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We propose an approximate analytic model of an optical switch with fibre delay lines and wavelength converters by employing Equivalent Random Theory. General arrival traffic is modelled by means of Gamma-distributed interarrival times.

BER performance analysis of 100 and 200 Gbit/s all-optical OTDM node using symmetric Mach-Zehnder switches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
New insight to the feasibility of all-optical ultra speed switching up to 200 Gb/s. The technique will reduce the dependency and bottleneck on the electronic-to-optical-to-electronic conversion.
