Phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry with Brillouin amplification
Optics Letters, 2014We propose a phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (Φ-OTDR) scheme with counterpumping fiber Brillouin amplification (FBA). High-sensitivity perturbation detection over 100 km is experimentally demonstrated as an example. FBA significantly enhances the probe pulse signal, especially at the second half of the sensing fiber, with only 6.4 dBm

Instrumentation principles for optical time domain reflectometry
Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1986Optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) is the only fibre measurement technique which allows anomalously lossy sections of fibre and other defects to be located nondestructively from one end of the fibre. The paper reviews the principles and techniques of the method.

High resolution optical time domain reflectometry for integrated optics
Optical Fiber Communication, 1990Optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) is a well known method for the diagnostics of fiber optic systems. For the characterization of integrated optical structures with typical dimensions of only a few millimeters, however, the spatial resolution and dynamic range of a standard OTDR system are insufficient.

Recent Trends in Optical Time Domain Reflectometry
IETE Technical Review, 1986The technique of Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) which was first suggested in 1976 has emerged in recent years as a major diagnostic as well a research tool in the field of optical communication. The OTDR, whose working principle is similar to that of a radar, can locate faults/breaks along the length of the fibre non-destructively besides ...

Birefringence measurement in optical fibers by polarization-optical time-domain reflectometry
Applied Optics, 1982The technique of polarization-optical time-domain reflectometry is analyzed to see how the polarization properties of an optical fiber may be deduced from the backscattered light. It is shown that, subject to certain assumptions, the polarization is modified as it would be by a linear retarder. The results of measurements on a fiber showing both linear
