Cracking assessment in concrete structures by distributed optical fiber [PDF]
In this paper, a method to obtain crack initiation, location and width in concrete structures subjected to bending and instrumented with an optical backscattered reflectometer (OBR) system is proposed.

Distributed opto-mechanical analysis of liquids outside standard fibers coated with polyimide
The analysis of surrounding media has been a long-standing challenge of optical fiber sensors. Measurements are difficult due to the confinement of light to the inner core of standard fibers.

The relevance of point defects in studying silica-based materials from bulk to nanosystems [PDF]
The macroscopic properties of silica can be modified by the presence of local microscopic modifications at the scale of the basic molecular units (point defects).

This paper proposes a method to solve the joint optimization of test node selection and fiber thread connection. The problem is modeled as an integer linear programming problem with two classes of decision variables. The first class of decision variables

We show a giant, bias‐field free, deterministic, spin‐orbit‐torque switching of perpendicular hard magnets with HC over 1.3 T. By combining the three‐fold 3m symmetry from topological insulator surface states with the rectangular mm2 symmetry from the 2 x 1 intercalation in Cr3Te4, the interface symmetry is significantly reduced into a unidirectional m

Thickness Dependence of Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Multilayer 3R‐MoS2
Thickness as a key design parameter for optimizing the nonlinear optical response of layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) materials is established. The demonstrated correlation between thickness, linear spectra, and harmonic generation efficiency provides a powerful framework for tailoring nonlinear performance.

Enhancing the Efficiency of Organic Photovoltaics by a Photoactive Molecular Mediator [PDF]
High boiling-point solvent additives, such as 1,8-diiodooctane, have been widely used to tune nanoscale phase morphology for increased efficiency in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells.

Polarisation optical time domain reflectometry
A proposed new optical fibre technique will allow measurement of the spatial distribution of physical fields, and will also allow location of anomalous features in single polarisation state monomode optical fibres such as are under discussion for very high bandwidth communication.
