We describe a phenomenon of nonlinear optics that occurs in the framework of transverse effects and optical vortices in lasers. We find that in a class-B laser vortices can never be at rest, but move, starting from an initial symmetry breaking of the direction of motion, continuously.

In this review the author presents the major works, that according to his opinion have played a historically important part in the formation and development of one of the most mysterious sections of modern optics - vortex (or singular) optics. Singular optics studies the behavior of light in the areas where there is no light - at zeros of intensity. An

An optical vortex transmissometer
Ocean Sensing and Monitoring X, 2018A method and system for optical vortex transmissometry. The method uses optical orbital angular momentum (OAM) and optical vortices to discriminate coherent non-scattered light from incoherent scattered light. The system includes a laser which transmits a Gaussian laser beam through a medium.

Optical vortex trapping of particles [PDF]
We demonstrate three-dimensional trapping of low-index particles (20-microm-diameter hollow glass spheres in water) by using a single, strongly focused, stationary dark optical vortex laser beam. The holographically generated vortex, which is similar to a TEM(01)* mode beam, was also used to trap and form ring patterns of high-index particles.

Entangled transverse optical vortex
Optics Letters, 2014We discuss a new kind of optical vortex with the angular momentum perpendicular to the flow direction and entangled in that it is a coherent combination of different orbital angular momentum states of the same sign. This entangled state exhibits many unexpected physical properties.
