Experimental demonstration of dual‐polarization multiplexed optical phased array empowered by inverse design

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 14, Issue 14, Page 2495-2505, July 2025.
Abstract This paper presents a dual‐polarization multiplexed optical phased array (OPA) implemented on a 220 nm silicon‐on‐insulator (SOI) platform, enabling continuous beam steering across TE and TM modes. While effectively guiding TE‐ and TM‐polarized light, the proposed OPA on this platform faces the challenge of overcoming the intrinsically high ...

Comparative Test of Novel Fluorescent Optical Antennas for LED‐ and Laser‐Based Optical Wireless Communications

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 13, May 5, 2025.
New fluorescent optical antennas are realized and tested for diverse Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) applications. The fluorescent concentrator slabs, based on different organic fluorophores, convert and convey the digital data conveyed through intensity modulation of incoming light toward a small‐area photodiode.

QCL‐Based Cryogen‐Free THz Optical Wireless Communication Link

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 19, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
A novel QCL‐based, cryogen‐free, and transportable wireless communication system is presented operating at 2.83 THz. The QCL device is mounted in a compact Stirling refrigerator, while a room‐temperature graphene‐based FET is used as a receiver, implementing a binary on‐off keying (OOK) modulation scheme with Manchester encoding.

Multiple Narrowband Bidirectional Self‐Powered Organic Photodetector with Fast Response

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 8, 2025.
Organic photodetectors(OPDs) with multiband, fast response are presented. These devices exhibit incidence direction‐dependent, narrow‐band spectral response from UV to NIR. Notably, their bandwidth surpasses 300 kHz, the fastest among same type devices reported to knowledge.

Physical layer security in satellite communication: State‐of‐the‐art and open problems

open access: yesIET Communications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This paper first classifies contemporary satellite communication networks into five domains and then analyse the use of PLS in each domain; these domains are hybrid satellite‐terrestrial networks, satellite‐based IoT, navigation satellite systems, FSO‐based satellites, and inter‐satellite communications.

Robust Connectivity in 6G Enabled Indoor VLC Networks Using Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces

open access: yesIET Communications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
Visible light communication (VLC) in 6G optical networks offers high data rates with extended network coverage. The challenge is that these VLC networks are susceptible to signal obstructions that lower line‐of‐sight (LoS) link quality. This paper proposes a novel framework that uses Intelligent reflecting surfaces, which provide improved non‐LoS ...

CNN‐Based Human Detection and Identification in Indoor Optical Camera Communication Systems Using a Wearable LED Strip

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
In this paper, we present an optical camera communication (OCC) system utilising a deep learning for indoor communication and monitoring with wearable LED strips and cameras. Specifically, we employ the YOLOv8 object detection model, based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs), to reliably detect a yellow safety jacket equipped with an LED strip in ...
