Raman spectra of two optical glasses (a borosilicate crown and a dense flint glass) have been obtained making use of unpolarized exciting light and also with parallel and perpendicular plane polarized exciting light. The chief characteristics of these spectra are that they consist essentially of continua with broad maxima in the continua.

Light scattering in optical waveguides

The coupling of scattered radiation from Raman-active core and cladding regions to the waveguide normal modes is analyzed by treating the scattered light as a classical incoherent effective source. Numerical results are presented for the limiting cases of single-mode or highly multimode excitation of the fiber.

Light with enhanced optical chirality

Lett.104, 163901 (2010)] recently demonstrated a scheme to enhance the chiral response of molecules, which relies on the use of circularly polarized light in a standing wave configuration. Here we show a new type of light that possesses orbital angular momentum and enhanced chiral response.

Carambola optics for recycling of light
