Adaptive optics – basic optical principles

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, 2016
SummaryAdaptive Optics (AO) refers to a technique to compensate for distortions caused by optical aberrations in the media between the camera and the object being imaged. It was originally developed for use in astronomical telescopes to compensate for optical distortions induced by the inhomogeneous earth atmosphere.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Outlier Ensemble Based on Isolation Forest: The CBOEA Approach

open access: yesFoundations of Computing and Decision Sciences
Outliers are instances that deviate from the norm. In certain fields, their detection is crucial since they are often indicators of interesting events such as system faults and deliberate human actions.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor-Based Optical Detection System for Fluidic Cellular Medium pH Quantification

open access: yesPhotonics
Accurate pH sensing is essential for the effective physiological control of the culture media in organ-on-a-chip (OoC) systems. This work proposes a miniaturized optical detection system, based on optical transmittance, for pH level quantification of the

Negative frequencies in pulse propagation equations and the double analytic signal

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2023
In recent years, the topic of negative frequencies has resurfaced in optics motivated by the optical analogue of Hawking radiation. We discuss the physical meaning of negative frequencies and the conditions under which they are relevant.

Bubble optics [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2019
Starting from a peculiar image observed below a bubble that is floating at a water–air interface, this paper analyzes several optical properties of these special types of refracting objects (termed bubble axicons). Using mainly geometrical optics, their relation to common axicons, the shadow-sausage effect, and elementary optical catastrophes (caustics)

Implementation of projective measurements with linear optics and continuous photon counting

open access: yes, 2004
We investigate the possibility of implementing a given projection measurement using linear optics and arbitrarily fast feedforward based on the continuous detection of photons.
