Therapeutic Apheresis for Intravenous Methylprednisolone‐Refractory Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: Clinical and Radiological Outcomes in a Single‐Center Case Series

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. High‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the standard first‐line therapy for acute attacks, although some patients remain refractory.

Bootstrapping Monte Carlo Tree Search with an Imperfect Heuristic

open access: yes, 2012
We consider the problem of using a heuristic policy to improve the value approximation by the Upper Confidence Bound applied in Trees (UCT) algorithm in non-adversarial settings such as planning with large-state space Markov Decision Processes.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

An optimal two-stage distribution of material flow at the fuel and energy complex enterprises [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
The two-stage distributing of material flows in the transport-logistics system of fuel and energy complex is considered. The structural elements of such system are mines (centers of the first stage), extracting coal from various mineral deposits in a ...

A Distributed Newton Method for Network Utility Maximization

open access: yes, 2010
Most existing work uses dual decomposition and subgradient methods to solve Network Utility Maximization (NUM) problems in a distributed manner, which suffer from slow rate of convergence properties.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A Partition-Based Implementation of the Relaxed ADMM for Distributed Convex Optimization over Lossy Networks

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we propose a distributed implementation of the relaxed Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers algorithm (R-ADMM) for optimization of a separable convex cost function, whose terms are stored by a set of interacting agents, one for each ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Comparative Analysis of the Plane Couette Flow of Couple Stress Fluid Under the Influence of Magnetohydrodynamics

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
The present study aims to perform a comparative analysis of the plane Couette flow of a couple stress fluid under the influence of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) using two different methods: the Optimal Auxiliary Function Method (OAFM) and the Homotopy ...

New results on subgradient methods for strongly convex optimization problems with a unified analysis

open access: yes, 2015
We develop subgradient- and gradient-based methods for minimizing strongly convex functions under a notion which generalizes the standard Euclidean strong convexity.
