Optimizing the operating theatre environment
ANZ Journal of Surgery, 2010AbstractThe operating theatre is a complex place. There are many potential factors which can interfere with surgery and predispose to errors. Optimizing the operating theatre environment can enhance surgeon performance, which can ultimately improve patient outcomes. These factors include the physical environment (such as noise and light), human factors

Optimization of Single Train Operations
2016Energy efficiency is paid more and more attention in railway systems for reducing the cost of operation companies and emissions to the environment. We both consider the optimizations on timetable and driving strategy are two important and closely dependent parts of energy-efficient operations.

Optimal Sorting in Industrial Operations
Management Science, 1971A theorem is developed which reduces to manageable proportions a linear programming problem of potentially infinite size. A converging iterative procedure is presented for estimating the parameters to be used in combining the activities of the original large problem.

Computers & Chemical Engineering, 2006
A production optimization problem for continuously operated processes is presented and a solution strategy is proposed. The strategy consists of decoupling the complete problem into a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) scheduling problem, including sequencing and allocation, and a multi-stage dynamic optimization (DO) problem, including the ...

Approximation operators in optimization theory
Zeitschrift für Operations Research, 1981Recently, new types of tangential cones such as the radial tangent cone, the hypertangent cone, the Clarke's tangent cone, and the set of directions in which a set is epi-Lipschitzian at a point have been introduced by Clarke, Hiriart-Urruty, and Rockafellar.

On the optimality of rank order operations
ICASSP '86. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005With the aid of the threshold decomposition, rank order filters are shown to be the optimal filters under a general error criterion which includes an absolute error criterion. The particular rank order filter that is optimal is specified by a linear program.

Operations Research and Optimal Radiology
Radiology, 1959Operations research is a novel approach to the problem of making sound decisions in complex matters. Conceived during the last war by scientists helping the war effort, it has proved its usefulness in many fields, as different as hunting enemy submarines and determining optimal rates of industrial production.
