Optimality in neuromuscular systems [PDF]

open access: yes2010 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology, 2010
We provide an overview of optimal control methods to nonlinear neuromuscular systems and discuss their limitations. Moreover we extend current optimal control methods to their application to neuromuscular models with realistically numerous musculotendons; as most prior work is limited to torque-driven systems. Recent work on computational motor control

Optimal threshold padlock systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computer Security, 2021
In 1968, Liu described the problem of securing documents in a shared secret project. In an example, at least six out of eleven participating scientists need to be present to open the lock securing the secret documents. Shamir proposed a mathematical solution to this physical problem in 1979, by designing an efficient k-out-of- n secret sharing scheme ...

Micro Nuclear Reactors: Potential Replacements for Diesel Gensets within Micro Energy Grids

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Resilient operation of medium/large scale off-grid energy systems, which is a key challenge for energy crisis solutions, requires continuous and sustainable energy resources. Conventionally, micro energy grids (MEGs) are adopted to supply electricity and

Hyperspectral Anomaly Detection via Discriminative Feature Learning with Multiple-Dictionary Sparse Representation

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Most hyperspectral anomaly detection methods directly utilize all the original spectra to recognize anomalies. However, the inherent characteristics of high spectral dimension and complex spectral correlation commonly make their detection performance ...

Symmetries of Ricci flows

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis, 2023
In the present work, we find the Lie point symmetries of the Ricci flow on an n-dimensional manifold, and we introduce a method in order to reutilize these symmetries to obtain the Lie point symmetries of particular metrics.

Dynamics of Vacancy Formation and Distribution in Semiconductor Heterostructures: Effect of Thermally Generated Intrinsic Electrons

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2023
The effect of thermally generated equilibrium carrier distribution on the vacancy generation, recombination, and mobility in a semiconductor heterostructure with an undoped quantum well is studied.

Optimal Taxation and Optimal Tax Systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Economic Perspectives, 1990
In its current state, optimal tax theory is incomplete as a guide to action for critical issues in tax policy. It is incomplete because it has not yet come to terms with taxation as a system of coercively collecting revenues from individuals who will tend to resist.

Optimal superluminal systems [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2005
We demonstrate that significant effects in the "superluminal propagation"of light-pulses cannot be observed without involving systems whose gain explodes outside the pulse spectrum. We explicitly determine the minimum norm of the gain to attain given superluminal effects and the transfer function of the corresponding optimal system.
