On the Optimal Tracking Problem

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 1992
Summary: The problem of optimally tracking a stochastic process based on noisy measurements through a window is being considered. Such a problem arises in a variety of applications where the field of view of the measuring device is limited (e.g., the ``aiming'' problem).

On the Problem of Optimal Reconstruction

Journal of Fourier Analysis and Applications, 2007
Lower bounds are found for linear and Alexandrov's cowidths of Sobolev's classes on compact homogeneous Riemannian manifolds \(M^d\). Using these results, the authors give an explicit solution for the problem of optimal reconstruction of functions from Sobolev's classes \(W_p^r(M^d)\) in \(L_q(M^d)\), \(1 \leq q \leq p\leq \infty\).

On the Problem of Optimal Cutting

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2002
Let \(\Omega\) denote a smooth domain in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) (the membrane) in which two points \(A\) and \(B\) are fixed. The class of admissible cuts of the membrane is the set \(U=\{\Gamma \subset\overline \Omega:A,B \in\Gamma\), \(\Gamma\) is compact and connected\}, and for each cut \(\Gamma\) the associated energy is given by \[ {\mathcal E}(\Gamma)=

Conversion of optimal control problems into parameter optimization problems

Guidance, Navigation, and Control Conference, 1996
Summary: Several methods exist for converting optimal control problems into parameter optimization problems, and they are categorized by the unknowns of the parameter optimization problem, the numerical integration technique, and the order of the integration technique.
