Abstract The generation of acoustic signals following optical absorption in gases and solids is described. Important parameters in the design of cells and their relationships to detection sensitivity and limiting noise signals are discussed. Examples are given of important applications of the optoacoustic effect in pollution monitoring, the measurement

Doppler-free optoacoustic spectroscopy
Optics Communications, 1979The first observation of Doppler-free optoacoustic spectroscopy is reported. As a first example the P (193) line of the 11-0 band of the B←X transition of 127I2 is used. The output of cw single mode dye laser is split into two equal intensity beams chopped at frequencies ω1 and ω2. The nonlinear compoment of the optoacoustic signal at the frequency (ω1

Optical and Optoacoustic Imaging Probes
2020Tissue has characteristic properties when it comes to light absorption and scattering. For optical (OI) and optoacoustic imaging (OAI) these properties can be utilised to visualise biological tissue characteristics, as, for example, the oxygenation state of haemoglobin alters the optical and optoacoustic properties of the molecule.

Image Reconstruction in Optoacoustics.
2015This thesis investigates reconstruction techniques for optoacoustic (oa) imaging, implemented both in pulsed and continuous wave (cw) mode. Two approaches to incorporate the transducer geometry into model-based reconstruction are implemented and its benefits showcased in simulations and experiments.

Imaging modalities play an increasing role in today's medical diagnostics. Among them, ultrasound (US) is one the most widespread techniques although it has relatively poor soft tissue contrast. Furthermore, US is poorly suited as a modality for molecular imaging (MI).Methods such as Doppler and contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) allow functional imaging of ...

Blood Optoacoustic Stimulation (BOAS)
Optica Biophotonics Congress 2025Photoacoustic is a precise non-genetic neural stimulation method. To avoid surgery and exogenous implants, we show blood as an effective endogenous absorber for PA stimulation in vivo. This study marks the first PA brain stimulation using endogenous absorbers.
