Optoelectronic microwave oscillator

Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 1996
We describe a novel oscillator that converts continuous light energy into stable and spectrally pure microwave signals. This optoelectronic microwave oscillator consists of a pump laser and a feedback circuit including an intensity modulator, an optical fiber delay line, a photodetector, an amplifier, and a filter.

Multifrequency optoelectronic oscillator

Optical Engineering, 2014
We propose a simple and cost-effective multifrequency optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) which is able to simultaneously generate two or more independent microwave signals by adding parallel filtering branches in the feedback loop. In the experimental demonstration, two signals with frequencies of 20 and 9 GHz are suc- cessfully generated. Compared with a

W-Band Optoelectronic Oscillator

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2020
We demonstrate the first W-band optoelectronic oscillator (OEO), that oscillates at 94.5 GHz with a measured single side band (SSB) phase noise of −101 dBc/Hz at an offset frequency of 10 kHz from the carrier. Side mode suppression of more than 65 dB has been achieved by using injection locking.

Modeling optoelectronic oscillators

Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 2008
We have developed a comprehensive simulation model for accurately studying the dynamics in optoelectronic oscillators (OEOs). Although the OEO is characterized by three widely separated time scales, our model requires neither long run times nor a large amount of memory storage. The model generalizes the Yao-Maleki model and includes all of the physical

Advances in optoelectronic oscillators

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
Optoelectronic oscillators are used for a wide variety of applications in microwave photonics. We here report the latest advances in this technology from our research group, with emphasis on the analysis of phase noise performance. We present a stochastic modelling approach for phase noise performance analysis of optoelectronic oscillators based on ...

Subharmonic Optoelectronic Oscillator

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2008
I propose and demonstrate a subharmonic optoelectronic oscillator (SH-OEO), which contains a frequency divider in the feedback loop and performs optical clock division, prescaled optical clock recovery, and optical time-division demultiplexing in the absence of subharmonic tones in the input signals. Also, I propose a scheme that achieves divide-by-two

An integrated optoelectronic oscillator

2017 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics (MWP), 2017
An integrated optoelectronic Oscillator (IOEO) which combines the integrated technologies of photonics and electronics has been developed. All of the necessary elements (for example, laser, photo-detector, electrical amplifier, electrical filter, etc.) have been assembled on a print circuit board (PCB) within size of 5∗6 cm.

Dual-frequency tunable optoelectronic oscillator

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference/International Conference on Information Photonics and Optical Communications 2020 (ACP/IPOC), 2020
A dual-frequency tunable optoelectronic oscillator based on the nonlinear effect of an amplifier is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the experiment, a dual-frequency signal with tuning ranges of 6.68-10.6 GHz and 20.04-31.9 GHz is generated.

Performance evaluation of an optoelectronic oscillator

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2000
Phase noise measurements of an optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) at frequencies less than 10 Ha from the carrier (10.6 GHz) as well as the measured Allan variance are presented for the first time. The system has a measured single-side-band (SSB) phase-noise of -123 dB/Hz at 10 kHz from the carrier and a sigma(y)(tau)=10(-10) for an integration time ...

An Etalon based Optoelectronic Oscillator

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2010, 2010
A 10.287 GHz optoelectronic oscillator is demonstrated which uses a 1000 finesse Fabry-Perot etalon as the mode selector instead of an RF filter. The new OEO has higher RF frequency stability and lower phase noise.
