Integrated optomechanical microelements

open access: yesOptics Express, 2007
We integrate the optical elements required to generate optical orbital angular momentum into a microdevice. This allows the rotation of either naturally occuring microparticles or specially fabricated optical rotors. We use a two photon photopolymerization process to create microscopic diffractive optical elements, customized to a wavelength of choice,

Combined feedback and sympathetic cooling of a mechanical oscillator coupled to ultracold atoms

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
A promising route to novel quantum technologies are hybrid quantum systems, which combine the advantages of several individual quantum systems. We have realized a hybrid atomic-mechanical experiment consisting of a Si _3 N _4 membrane oscillator ...

Probing wave function collapse models with a classically driven mechanical oscillator

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
We show that the interaction of a pulsed laser light with a mechanical oscillator through the radiation pressure results in an opto-mechanical entangled state in which the photon number is correlated with the oscillator position.

Optical levitation of fluorescent silicon carbide nanoparticles in vacuum

open access: yesAIP Advances
Levitated optomechanics is an emerging field in quantum science that explores the quantum motion of mesoscopic particles levitated in a vacuum. Expanding this approach to particles with intrinsic quantum defects opens exciting opportunities for quantum ...

Membrane-Mediated Conversion of Near-Infrared Amplitude Modulation into the Self-Mixing Signal of a Terahertz Quantum Cascade Laser

open access: yesPhotonics
A platform for converting near-infrared (NIR) laser power modulation into the self-mixing (SM) signal of a quantum cascade laser (QCL) operating at terahertz (THz) frequencies is introduced.

Strong squeezing via phonon mediated spontaneous generation of photon pairs

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
We propose a scheme for generating squeezed light by using a double-cavity optomechanical system driven by a blue detuned laser in one cavity and by a red detuned laser in the other.

Long distance coupling of a quantum mechanical oscillator to the internal states of an atomic ensemble

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We propose and investigate a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of a micro-mechanical oscillator coupled to the internal states of a distant ensemble of atoms.

A self-assembled two-dimensional hypersonic phononic insulator

open access: yesNanophotonics
The coupling between the electromagnetic field and the motional degrees of freedom of a nanoscale object offers an interesting control-knob for light–matter interaction.

Experimental evidence for Abraham pressure of light

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
The question of how much momentum light carries in media has been debated for over a century. Two rivalling theories, one from 1908 by Hermann Minkowski and the other from 1909 by Max Abraham, predict the exact opposite when light enters an optical ...
