Genes Associated With Fracture Risk in Thoroughbred Horses Have Novel Roles in Osteogenesis

open access: yesAnimal Genetics, Volume 57, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Bone fractures in Thoroughbred racehorses are a major welfare problem. Genetic factors contribute to fracture risk. Cell models have previously identified 112 differentially expressed genes in bone‐forming osteoblasts derived from horses at high and low genetic risk of fracture. However, 42 of these genes have no published role in bone.

Bard1‐Mediated Regulation of Hnrnpa2b1 Ubiquitination and Protein Stability Contributes to Neuronal Ferroptosis and Cognitive Dysfunction Following Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
Bard1‐mediated ubiquitination of Hnrnpa2b1 in mice with PSCI destabilizes Sptbn2, which prevents the membrane translocation of Slc7a11 and reduces cystine uptake. This disruption of antioxidant defense triggers ferroptosis in hippocampal neurons, highlighting a novel molecular pathway linking post‐stroke cognitive impairment to ferroptosis of ...

Sex‐Specific Anti‐Inflammatory Effects of Alternate Day Fasting via TLR4 and Leptin Signaling in Middle‐Aged Rats

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 8, August 2026.
ADF downregulates TLR4, reducing hypothalamic and hepatic inflammation, with stronger effects in females. ADF enhances leptin sensitivity in aging by reducing SOCS3 and upregulating ObRb, thereby improving metabolic function. ADF reduces retroperitoneal fat and glucose levels, with females experiencing greater fat loss.

Genetic analysis of primary lung interdigitating dendritic cell sarcomas

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, Volume 269, Issue 4-5, Page 387-398, August 2026.
Abstract Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcomas (IDCSs) are rare tumors that commonly arise in the hematopoietic system and rarely outside. The genetic drivers of IDCS carcinogenesis are unknown; therefore, therapeutic options are limited. We investigated somatic gene mutations and copy‐number alterations (CNAs) in nine IDCSs arising in the lung by ...

Potent and Sustained Lowering of Serum Uric Acid by YJH‐012‐D, a GalNAc‐Conjugated siRNA Targeting Xanthine Dehydrogenase

open access: yesPharmacology Research &Perspectives, Volume 14, Issue 4, August 2026.
We developed a GalNAc‐conjugated siRNA targeting hepatic XDH, which effectively reduces uric acid production by silencing XDH expression, offering a promising therapeutic approach for hyperuricemia. ABSTRACT Hyperuricemia (HUA) is primarily driven by hepatic overproduction of urate, mediated by xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH).

Preclinical Evaluation of Berry Extracts as a Nutritional Intervention to Alleviate Myocardial Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury and Atherosclerosis Development

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, Volume 40, Issue 8, Page 5299-5315, August 2026.
Schematic representation of the experimental design and the proposed mechanisms underlying the cardioprotective and anti‐atherosclerotic effects of Greek‐derived berry extracts. C57BL/6 mice with WD–induced MS and ApoE−/− mice with atherosclerosis received chronic supplementation with WMex or BBex.

Artificial exposure to herbivore‐induced volatile organic compounds reduces herbivory and modulates gene expression in potato plants

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, August 2026.
These findings provide strong mechanistic evidence for VOCs mediating pest resistance and suggest that exposure to herbivore‐induced, plant‐derived VOCs can enhance pest resistance in potato crops. These results might offer novel information for developing ecologically sustainable plant volatile‐based strategies for boosting protection against pests in
